Name Changing

[edit]

The commercial for the show during UFC 95 confirmed it was called The Ultimate Fighter: United States vs. United Kingdom instead of The Ultimate Fighter: U.S.A. vs. U.K. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.229.74.75 (talkcontribs)

And the various sourced already cited in the article call it a number of different names. We just resolved the issue of having two articles for the same show. My suggestion is to leave the article situation as it is until:
  • Closer to the airing of the season.
  • Until we have a definitive source (namely the UFC) on the actual title of the season.
At the same time, the issue could be resolved entirely by naming the article "The Ultimate Fighter 9" and making all US vs UK variations redirect to the TUF 9 article. -TreyGeek (talk) 05:07, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rumors & Pre-Airing Information

[edit]

I would like to remind everyone that Wikipedia is a source of facts that are cited in the article. Therefore, avoid placing rumors in the article. Also tournament brackets are premature until after the semi-final rounds and should not be added to the article until that time. If rumors, unsourced information, or tournament brackets are added to the article, expect for those edits to be reverted. --TreyGeek (talk) 04:37, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anderson Silva's next fight

[edit]

I have a real issue with this article claiming that the winner between the two coaches for season 9 will face Anderson Silva. He's already crushed Rich Franklin twice, and defeated Henderson convincingly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.4.118.16 (talk) 04:47, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The creator of the article put that in there. I put the "fact" tag on it. It would be nice to know what the winner of the coaches bout gets. If there are very many people who dislike this rumor then it can be removed. I would not be against its removal. --TreyGeek (talk) 15:59, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Per Dana White, the Winner of the UFC 100 is NOT going to get an automatic title shot (this was on one of his podcasts-I cannot remember witch one) But bisping

Merger_proposal

[edit]

I discovered this morning that there are two TUF: US vs UK articles on Wikipedia. I have place merge tags on both articles and suggest they be merged into this article. My reasoning for this article is that the article title contains the correct abbreviation "vs." as opposed to the incorrect "vs".
A couple issues on the article to be merged here:

  • The list of fighters is no cited and is only speculation at this point. Therefore I believe it should not be merged into this article.
  • Also, the tournament brackets are even more speculation and should not be brought over. Tournament brackets for the last several seasons have not been placed in the article until the semi-final match-ups are announced as then we know what the brackets actually look like.

I welcome any other comments or suggestions. In the meantime I will try to take some of the valuable information there and put it here. If there is no response in a day or two I will request the other page be deleted. --TreyGeek (talk) 16:15, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Quick note. The other page won't be deleted. Rather it will be redirected to this page. --TreyGeek (talk) 16:59, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
One page should be moved. Check WP:TITLE to see which is correct. And some of the fighters have been announced on reliable sources, such as Robert Browning, Junie's brother.--2008Olympianchitchat 18:01, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Robert Browning has been publicized and is in the "vs." article with a source. The fighter list on the "vs" page is unsourced and even mentions it is rumor. I know of no other fighters who have had their names published in any sources. If they exist, those sources need to be cited in the article. --TreyGeek (talk) 18:08, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anthony Johnson & Finale Match

[edit]

I'm interested in other people's feedback on the issue of Anthony Johnson's finale match. His original match against John Howard was canceled, I think we all agree on that. Now there are reports that Johnson will fight Tamdan McCrory. The reports cite an interview by Johnson in which says his agents haven't told him who he will fight next. However, he has heard that it will be McCrory, but "nothing has been signed." To me, this sounds very indefinite and shouldn't be placed in the finale card. Is that just me or do people believe that it really should be included? --TreyGeek (talk) 19:33, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Referee Stoppage for Dollar vs Hayden Match

[edit]

There appears to be a disagreement among a couple of us in regards to the Dollar/Hayden match. When the match was over, Steve Mazagati(sp?) announced the results as a "referee stoppage." For all of these elimination matches, the referee (or Dana White in the event it goes to the judges scorecard) announces the result of the match (TKO, tapout, etc). In this case it was announced as a "referee stoppage." I believe this is what should be reflected in the article.

It may also be possible to list it both ways, but am unsure how to word that. --TreyGeek (talk) 18:07, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"A technical submission occurs when the referee or doctor must stop a fight due to an obvious injury to the figher or lack of consciousness of the fighter." from http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_a_technical_submission

Even with a brutal KO, Buffer often say that "The ref put a stop to the contest".

There's 6 ways to win : Decision, KO, TKO, Submission, technical submission, DQ. Ref stoppage is not precise enough. I'll let you change it to technical submission

Sherfou (talk) 18:13, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

According to the Nevada State Athletic Commission's rules, the results of contests can be:
    • Submission by physical tap out or verbal tap out.
    • Technical knockout by the referee stopping the contest.
    • Decision via the scorecards.
    • Technical decision.
    • Technical draw.
    • Disqualification.
    • Forfeit.
    • No decision.
Given these choices, then I guess the match should be ruled a TKO since it was a referee stoppage. Unfortunately, the NSAC doesn't publish the results of these elimination matches (even after the season airs). So what goes in the article is what we decide on since there will probably be no source to say one way or another. --TreyGeek (talk) 18:27, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
They do eventually publish them (see NSAC website), but yeah - not until after the season. On a completly different note; one thing I wondered about when I first saw the NSAC rules - why do they not list knockout? They still "give them out" though, see e.g. Franklin over Quarry at UFC 54. On this issue, without having seen the episode, you're right in that what's called technical submission some other places (going unconsious from a choke for example) is a TKO in Nevada. --aktsu (t / c) 19:07, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Actually the NSAC doesn't publish the elimination matches. They just publish the rest of the matches. I went looking to see if we'd ever get an official results list. For the last two seasons they only do the non-elimination matches. Unsure why. --TreyGeek (talk) 19:13, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Seems like you're right. I just assumed they listed all of them -_- --aktsu (t / c) 19:19, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've reworded the sentence in regards to the Dollar/Hayden match. It's done such that the reader can decide for themselves whether it is a TKO, a "referee stoppage," a technical submission, or whatever. I'm not completely sure I like the wording (and just decided on a possibly better wording, sorry for the re-edit), but it potentially resolves conflicts over the end result of the match (which in the long run, probably doesn't matter much). --TreyGeek (talk) 20:00, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

According to UFC official episode recap (http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=news.detail&gid=19167) "The third lightweight to earn his way into the house for Team US was Cameron Dollar, who survived some ferocious ground and pound from Tommy Hayden before submitting his foe with a rear naked choke in the second stanza."

Also, the match between Herman and Maia at UFC 83 ended when the referee stopped the contest when Herman was out in a triangle choke (he did not tap). Maia won by submission. To be more precise, Sherdog (which i consider as a major reference in MMA) states that this match ended in a technical submission. If we say right ahead that the match ended in a technical submission, the 2nd sentence become so obvious that there's no need for it. So using "technical submisson" eliminate all ambiguities. Sherfou (talk) 02:18, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I'm thinking this is incredibly petty to continue arguing over. My last wording of the sentence simply said that Dollar won the match and explained the circumstances around it. If UFC says it's a submission, then fine (sourcing the article to their site would be even better). I'm not going to putz with it any longer (unless someone truly vandalizes the section). --TreyGeek (talk) 03:28, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reid vs. Lester

[edit]

What is that going to be called? 68.188.29.77 (talk) 02:48, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think it would be considered a TKO. Ried was unconscious but not for anything that Lester did to him. --TreyGeek (talk) 03:14, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Who the hell is Dean Amasinger

[edit]

And why does his page redirect here? Hexrei2 (talk) 08:12, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

He is a fighter who had an article. However, he was not deemed to be a notable fighter and an admin redirected his page here. If you look at the article here you will see mentions of his name throughout. --TreyGeek (talk) 11:39, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would have to disagree with Dean Amasinger's page merger with this page, he is highly regarded in this country, having fought for all the major promotions here, as well as professionally taking top named, notable fighters. He has even been on all the posters of fight events that he was part of, including BAMMA 8. How do I go about to unmerging his page with this one?
