Use of modern military photo
Officership in the 19th century was a very different matter from the role and lifestyle of military leaders today. There's even a Wikipedia article about it, which might even be just the point the author was trying to make: Purchase_of_commissions_in_the_British_Army
While many of Veblen's principles may be applicable to modern economics, the use of a photo of modern military personnel to illustrate his theory is inappropriate and most likely misleading. It was certainly confusing to me. An illustration here should be more along the lines of Monty Python's "Army Protection" sketch.
Speaking of the Leisure Class, I also noticed the irony in that L. claims to be an elite class of user, one who is above complaining and insulting users; while using this talk page to complain and insult people. I think what he was trying to say is that any theory presented in this article represents the book's premise and is not a generally-held observation of any economy today. 74.69.88.134 (talk) 16:39, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

Strange picture at the beginning of the article, not sure why that choice was made. An image of the first edition or perhaps the first in English would be better if someone could find it. —Anonymous 19:36, 28 November 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.51.249.161 (talk)
