Requested move 1 January 2023
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: Not Moved. Wikipedia is a resource for the general public. I suspect that 99% of the people who search for "Sound of Music" are looking forThe Sound of Music, and that is where the redirect takes them. Since there are other uses, it is right that there is a disambiguation page for them. So in this case the simplist case of the title includes "The". The 4 uses of "Sound of Music" are obscure in comparison, so there is no need to rename the page. I don't think anyone looking for those "Sound of Music" entries will be surprised when they end up on The Sound of Music and will not feel put opon or confused going to a disambiguation page of the same name. It would be more odd if the disambiguation page had a different name. SamuelWantman 07:36, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
The Sound of Music (disambiguation) → Sound of Music – The suggestion that the main title header of this disambiguation page has no need of "The", per WP:DABNAME, was initially made by Crouch, Swale in a related discussion that took place in July 2022. Since there are four entries on this dab page that do not use "The" — two WP:DABMENTIONS as well as two headers — Sound of Music (album) and Sound of Music (punk club), the fact that a minority of entries use no "The", might eliminate the need for "The" along with the need for the parenthetical qualifier "(disambiguation)". — Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 09:07, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
- weak oppose Why should Sound of Music not be the WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT to The Sound of Music? That seems like what it should be, given that the "Sound of Music" articles (without "The") seem obscure. Nohomersryan (talk) 22:57, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
- Users researching the musical, which is indeed officially titled "The Sound of Music", can access it directly by simply typing it. On the other hand, those whose intended target was the musical, but who nonetheless type "Sound of Music", would still see the link to the musical listed at the very top of the proposed Sound of Music disambiguation page. Since not all of the entries on this dab page start with "The", WP:DABNAME recommends, "The simplest form of the term is preferred to those containing punctuation, diacritics and articles; for example SA is preferred to S.A., and Shadow (disambiguation) is preferred to The Shadow (disambiguation)." —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 03:20, 2 January 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose. The majority of the dab entries have "The" in their name. Sound of Music should remain as a redirect to The Sound of Music. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:10, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
- Support yes DAB pages should not normally have articles when not all of the entries use them. We could also move to Sound of Music (disambiguation) if the stage musical is primary. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:53, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose. The lack of the word "The" most likely refers to The Sound of Music ... WP:SMALLDETAILS. Steel1943 (talk) 15:16, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
