I made one minor correction...

[edit]

The sheriff's name in the movie was Billy Wilson, not Billy Watson. I corrected it in the article.184.0.120.235 (talk) 15:38, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Reception?

[edit]

What did the critics make of it, and how did it do at the box-office? Valetude (talk) 19:59, 6 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Good question. I added a section with key contemporary reviews and Rotten Tomatoes' ratingMerry medievalist (talk) 11:22, 30 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Tom's fate—a production story waiting to be told?

[edit]

I posted a note about TCM's erroneous statements about Tom's supposed death at the end of the film. His offscreen recovery makes me wonder, is there a reason Dean Martin did not deliver the line about it taking more than one bullet to kill him on camera? Was the character given a last-minute reprieve for some reason? Inquiring minds want to know.Merry medievalist (talk) 11:30, 30 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Who killed Billy Wilson?

[edit]

The article said Morgan Hastings sent Curley to kill Billy Wilson. I've seen this movie several times, and as I recall, Hastings killed Billy himself. 2602:FE43:0:332D:704A:3EDD:90AE:467E (talk) 20:11, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Marlow Gang

[edit]

The Wikipedia article itself states that the screenplay was based on an account of the Marlow Brothers:

"=== Screenplay === [edit]

William H. Wright picked up a copy of Life of the Marlows by Glenn Shirley in a Los Angeles bookstore in 1953. Thinking that it would make the basis of a good Western, he paid members of the Marlow family $1,000 (about $11388.06 when adjusted for inflation several decades later) each for the rights to make it into a screenplay. But when the movie was made 12 years later, the film's plot had been drastically changed. Centerofuniverse (talk) 19:23, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
