Membership of the Slickers
[edit]Sleevenotes by John Hillarby to John Martyn's "Ain't No Saint" compilation suggest that the makeup of the Slickers at the time Johnny Too Bad was written was:
Hylton Beckford; Derrick Crooks; Shadow - listed by Allmusic as the stage name of Winston Bailey; Delroy Wilson;
Other John Martyn recordings of this song are credited to variously The Slickers or Beckford/Crooks. Soarhead77 (talk) 11:33, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Split into two, one for the band, another for Johnny Too Bad?
[edit]Like millions of others, I bought the soundtrack album years before I could find a place to watch the movie. It was probably after Bob Marley broke big worldwide, especially in the US, before the movie got viewings in small independent theatres. The movie is great but the album is fantastic, imho. (Rockers was the same, heard and bought the album before seeing the movie). There are many more covers of JTB on albums, as singles, and lots of bands played it live regularly. Example, John Martyn was a gifted songwriter with a few great albums, but his most famous and most radio-played songs and constants in his live shows.were various versions of him covering JTB and Over the Rainbow. I saw him one time when he was so drunk, he fell off the ( at least small and low) stage while riffing madly on JTB. Thoughts? SmarterAlec (talk) 01:24, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
