typo?

[edit]

In the first quotation, the word "alla" appears. Is this a typo for "all"? Kdammers 06:08, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll double-check my sources when I get a chance, but as it is a direct quote it might have been a typo in the original source, or perhaps a word construction we no longer user.--Caliga10 12:40, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Brass

[edit]

The article states that the material makes an Indian source problematical unless trade items are involved. since the artifacts are destroyed (how, when?), perhaps they were actually of copper. A number of copper items from Michigan have on occasion been called brass and bronze. Kdammers 06:10, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"how" - fire, "when" - 1843. I guess that is a possibility, but since the artifacts were examined by archaeologists at the time one would hope they thought to check whether the material was copper or brass.--Caliga10 12:42, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism?

[edit]

These sentences appear at the end of Dr. Leland's description:

We would fain believe that these were the remains of some noble old chief, once master of the beautiful and rich valley through which the dark waters of the Titicut (Indian name of Taunton River) still rot. We would believe so, for we dove to think that humanity once warmed the heart of him whose bones have excited so much our wonder and curiosity.

I have yet to find a description of a river rotting through a valley. This and the use of the word dove makes me think that this is a result of some subtle vandalism. Possibly the word run was replaced? The word dare could fit where dove is. Please advise. --Auric (talk) 23:39, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not vandalism as that version was in the earliest version. But there is a more important problem. Far, far too much of this article is taken up by these two quotes, the first of which isn't even sourced. Not only that, the mainstream view is minimised. A major overhaul is needed and that would fix the problem you've found. Dougweller (talk) 06:46, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
