I've changed the name of the supposed main character from "J.B. Tommy" to "J.B." The name "J.B." came from the author's eldest son, Joseph Benjamin Hample, who did, in fact, inspire much of the book. In one cartoon-style illustration in the book, a character named Tommy is asked, "Have you seen J.B., Tommy?" Apparently someone who edited this Wikipedia page mistakenly assumed that "J.B." and "Tommy" were part of the same name.

It is also questionable whether J.B. is a recurring character in the book, or whether the author intended to draw random pictures of little boys throughout the book and meant to give one of those boys a name on one page only. The same could be said for the random pictures of little girls, one of whom is referred to as "Louise" on one page only, and then only because the name rhymes with the rest of the poem on that page: "Cheese, please, Louise." However, I will leave intact the assertion that there are two recurring characters named J.B. and Louise, since I can't specifically disprove it. -- Henry Hample, the author's second son 99.195.51.28 (talk) 01:04, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That's very interesting! Thanks for the edits. --Thylacinus cynocephalus (talk) 00:57, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
