[edit]After School Satan Clubs and pagan statues have popped up across US. What's going on? Doug Weller talk 20:41, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
Structure of article and names of headings
[edit]I revised some of the headings, including moving Schisms into a separate heading (not under Reception). But the "Campaigns and initiatives" section is a hodgepodge of 20 items, so far, and it could keep growing with more distinct items.
Instead, I propose that we reorganize that section into subcategories. We could aim for some standard categories in religious or political studies. Or perhaps the major categories listed in their mission, such as abortion rights, equal representation, school clubs, and working against (their perceived?) hate groups. Suggestions anyone? - Here are possible subcategories and their items:
- Communal activities
- * Sober faction
- * Black mass
- * Pentagram ritual
- * LA Satanic mass
- * Satancon
- Public domain displays
- * Baphomet statue
- * Baphometic bowl
- * Proposed flag at Mass. capitol (SCOTUS case)
- * Holiday displays
- * Invocation challenges
- * Bladensburg peace cross
- Education system
- * Prayer in schools
- * Protect children
- * After school satan
- * [contest]
- Political issues activism [besides public display and education]
- * Pink mass
- * Muslim refugee
- * Abortion rights activism
- * Abortion medical services
- Criticism of Christianity
- * Junipero Sperra
- Categories are needed because there are (and will be) more campaigns and rituals to include here. These categories are imperfect, since some items can go under more than one category. ProfGray (talk) 03:01, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
Schisms and dissent
[edit]In response to recent edits, I have a few comments:
- "Jezebel should generally not be used for contentious claims, especially ones about living persons." From: WP:JEZEBEL
- Our NPOV writing about Lucien Greaves should mostly be on the bio article about him. It's WP:UNDUE to put excess detail here. Also, such info should be clearly connected -- by the reliable sources themselves -- in relation to dissent within (or against) The Satanic Temple. Doesn't belong simply because we see connection.
- On dissent, you might see the Helen Lewis article in the The Atlantic, currently source #2
I can elaborate if need be. Thanks. ProfGray (talk) 15:56, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
- User:RKT7789, hi. You restored a "controversy" section that I and another editor (Hiplibrarianship) consider inappropriate. My reasons are described above. Your edit summary said, "The ongoing debate about Greave's past has caused three TST affiliated organizations to dissociate with TST just within the week, I'd say its pretty damn due. TST is hemorrhaging members due to this."
- Do you have a reliable source for your edit summary? If not, and if you have hearsay or insider information, that's not relevant here.
- In any case, the content you added is not adequately supported, it's excess detail for this topic, and it doesn't connect close enough to TST (compared to the bio for LG). If we remove the content, be sure to discuss here so that we can reach some degree of consensus on the content. ProfGray (talk) 18:41, 28 May 2024 (UTC)

Religion?
[edit]As far as I was ware it was never actually a religion. It was made just to troll and trigger Christians. When did they actually decide to be a religion? 2620:10D:C091:600:0:0:1:EC8B (talk) 07:44, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
- The Satanic Temple is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as having the same 501(c)(3) sub-categorization as any other religious organization (AP News: https://apnews.com/general-news-6addf2f0ecb646919cb1cfcfdacfc6c1) which includes, among many possible examples, the Catholic Diocese of Boston, the Southern Baptist Convention, the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of the United States, and the American Atheists. Whether it is a "religion" is impossible to say, as there is no mechanism in US law or centuries of judicial precedent to make such a determination.
