In coverage about the film being Ireland's Best International Feature Film submission, news sources like Deadline Hollywood. IndieWire, and The Hollywood Reporter write The Quiet Girl. Support - It seems like Irish English-language sources (understandably) prefer the Irish name? Nominator makes a good case though for the English name being more common. It could change later though as it's a recent movie. Fredlesaltique (talk) 12:39, 20 August 2022 (UTC)

While I'd prefer to keep this article at An Cailín Ciúin (because as far as I know it is almost entirely in the Irish language and listing it under its native language title would normally be appropriate) I would grudgingly concede that this is a case of WP:COMMONNAME and it would not be unreasonable to move the page to the English language title, this is English language Wikipedia after all. Please preserve the native name as a redirect.

Oh and the IPA pronunciation isn't right. I tested it with http://ipa-reader.xyz/ and the pronunciation would be closer to "kalʲiːnʲ kʲuːnʲ" (to begin with the 'c' sound should be the same in both cases). For comparison the trailer includes the words "quiet girl" (a quiet girl rather than "the quiet girl", but it doesn't change the pronunciation sounds) at approximately the one minute mark https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOLJqEJI_-o&t=60s so maybe someone more familiar with IPA could fix it? -- 109.76.205.82 (talk) 23:04, 22 August 2022 (UTC)

Yeah and if the Irish name ends out becoming more common (sometimes that happens; it's a very recent movie) it can be re-nominated and changed back. Fredlesaltique (talk) 23:41, 22 August 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for changing it, but I fully expect someone expert in IPA will still need to change it further. My best guess at a slightly less inaccurate IPA should not be taken as the correct answer. The first part sounds about right, (see also wikt:Colleen) but the vowel sounds of ciúin still aren't right, the sound is too short and the inflections feel wrong. -- 109.76.205.82 (talk) 01:53, 23 August 2022 (UTC)

2006 novel
