Help for this article
[edit]I have been in an annual amateur production of The Promise for five years, and I would really like to help improve this article. I honestly don't know where to start, though. I could definately come up with a list of songs, plot synopsis, and maybe even some photographs of our production. Does anyone mind? It might take me a while, and I would greatly appreciate any help from anyone else familiar with the musical. MarianKroy (talk) 19:07, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
- I took a quick look at this and set it up a little for you in a more standard format. Now, you can add a song list (right after Synopsis), more complete plot summary, and free images. Please try to add some references to independent sources. See WP:RS and the article structure guidelines at WP:MUSICALS. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:53, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
You can get a lot of plot/song info here: http://thepromiseglenrose.com/2007Playbill_Final_Web.pdf -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:14, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, I expanded the Act One summary and the song list. They're still not complete, though. Several songs and scenes have been added to the Texas production since the original production. I currently have just posted the original synopsis and song list. I think the best way to do it would be to have the summary and synopsis in their most updated form, with a footnote or something saying that all productions may not use all the songs. I know the one I've been in for five years has added some of the new songs and scenes, and I think they're pretty relevant. I'll work on this hopefully quite soon.MarianKroy (talk) 22:12, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Any way you do it is fine, as long as you explain the changes in a note at the end of the relevant section. I wikified the synopsis (whew! a lotta links!), but I'm not sure of the link to John the disciple. Look at Saint John and pick the right one! Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:43, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- There's definately more plot synopsis to add (I'm only about a third of the way through Act Two!) and I'm sorry it's taking so long. My life's been really busy lately. I'll try to do better on formatting and such and hopefully I'll have some free time tomorrow to work on this.MarianKroy (talk) 02:27, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
No worries, you're making steady progress, and you're adding super content to Wikipedia. You may need to slim the language down so that Act II doesn't get too too long. Thanks! -- Ssilvers (talk) 04:27, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
I uploaded an image, and it actually did upload and integrate into the article correctly, and I'm excited! I didn't really know how to do the fair use/copywright stuff, but I know the image is not copywrighted. How's it look?MarianKroy (talk) 15:58, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
Poster Image
[edit]I finally uploaded the original poster. I put it in the upper right corner where the infobox usually is. I don't know whether or not to put an infobox in since the show has been added to over time. I think it could use one, though. Any thoughts?MarianKroy (talk) 13:45, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Info Box
[edit]Thank you, Ssilvers, for creating the infobox! Do you think it should somehow indicate that The Promise has been performed at Glen Rose annually since 1989 and that there have been other annual productions? Do they not count as "official" productions since they only run for a couple weeks each year? I think at least the Branson production could go in the infobox, though, because it was performed daily, I believe, for the length of its run. These are just my thoughts; I definately don't want to violate Wikipedia policy.MarianKroy (talk) 17:34, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think the infobox needs to be stuffed full of details. I would normally just put in the original/most important production(s), otherwise the boxes get too big. Sure, put in Branson, but I think we should encourage people to read our beautiful prose, rather than scan the box and click away. :) Note that the article has a section called "Other Productions", which should indeed describe the various productions, locations and other notable information about the various productions. That section is currently unreferenced, and if possible, you should cite newspaper articles/reviews or other published sources to support the assertions that 1) the productions exist/existed on the dates described; and 2) all the other information described is true. I you need help with citation format, just stick in the citations with name of author, name of article, name of work (newspaper, etc), page number (if possible), and publisher info, and then I'll help you format them. All the best, -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:26, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Pictures?
[edit]I'm been involved in the Glen Rose production for several years. I'd like to add a few pictures from our production on here, but I can't figure out how to do that? If someone could help, that would be great! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Britleigh (talk • contribs) 01:01, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
- Well, it looks like you got one image up there! I've been in a production of The Promise for 5 years! I'm sort of new here myself (I joined March 2008), but I use the upload file link in the toolbox section of the links on the left sidebar. You can either select the type of image from the list or just proceed to the upload form. Either way, enter the file name of the image in the appropriate box, give it the name you wish the image to have on Wikipedia in the box below that, enter the required information in the summary box, and select the type of licensing it has. If you need help figuring out what kind of information there should be, take a look at some of the show posters' pages for the musicals already on Wikipedia. Be forwarned: Wikipedia only accepts free images, with a few exceptions (most notably, book covers, original show posters, album covers, etc.), so some of the licensing options lead to "dead ends". This probably sounds really technical. The Help page has a lot more information, but I hope this helps! MarianKroy (talk) 03:46, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
Dramatic Analysis
[edit]I just added a Dramatic Analysis section because I thought that the design of the musical could be better explained. As this is a fairly obscure work, I'm not sure if anyone else has any more knowledge about it than I; however, if anyone notices some formatting issues or general dramatic terms/devices that could be described better, feel free to work on it. I think the section is worth having, though; I don't know too much about theatrical terminology, though, so I just described the show's designing principles the best I could. MarianKroy (talk)
