Translation popular in Japan
[edit]I don't see a good spot for this info right now, but if someone writes a reception section, it might be fun to note that when this novel was translated and sold in Japan by Iwanami Shoten, it "was a runaway success: a record 60,000 copies", per this 2004 article.
