Comments:

  • The song was generally well received by music critics; negativity mainly consisted of the songs composition, while praise generated from Williams' vocal performance. - This is a badly structured sentence. "...song's composition" is missing an apostrophe. "...generated from Williams' vocal performance" can be confusing and should be rewritten.

  • A music video, directed by Brandon Chesbro, for the song was released on February 17, 2010, via the bands official website. - This should be recast for better flow: "A music video for the song, directed by Brandon Chesbro, was released on February 17, 2010, via the bands official website." - "...bands" is missing an apostrophe.

  • There are numerous punctuation errors. I will not go through each one here. Please have someone who has not worked on the article before to check and correct these low-level grammar issues. You may wish to get assistance from WP:GOCE.
I've doe some tweaking to the article's prose and I think that I may have corrected all of the problems, could you check the article to see if there are anymore remaining prose issues? Thanks, Crystal Clear x3 [talk] 14:50, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • As of yet,... - This should be rewritten to improve grammar.

  • He was asked to direct "The Only Exception"'s music video in December 2009. - Recast to avoid confusing punctuation.

  • ...while lying down on a giant pile of Valentine-themed cards (which were sent in by the bands fans) - No need to repeat the part about the fans.

  • There is a lot of information on the video, but not of the song itself. Basic key information such as the key of the song is missing.
I was not able to find any reviews that mentioned the song's composition (i.e the key, basic chord progression, vocal range, ect) and sources such as MusicNotes.com did not publish the sheet music or sell a book of the album's sheet music.
  • The lead mentions facts that are not present in other sections. For example, her parents' divorce, which also requires a reference. See WP:LEAD.
 Fixed Crystal Clear x3 [talk] 14:09, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • All the reviews are positive. Are there no other critical reviews to present a more balance view?
I have not been any to find any negative reviews of the song, as noted in the article, the song was generally praised by critics; I've clarified mention of the song's critical reception in the article. Crystal Clear x3 [talk] 14:33, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It would have been nice but it is not compulsory to have this, so I will accept it as it is. -- S Masters (talk) 03:21, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Is it not possible to include a clip of the song?
I do not know how to upload any audio on to Wikipedia, from what I've been told by other editors on this site an audio sample is not required for a GA. Crystal Clear x3 [talk] 14:09, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is not required but it would have been nice. As one is not available, I will accept it. -- S Masters (talk) 03:21, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Summary: There are too many basic grammar issues that need to be fixed. In addition, there is not enough information on the song itself, especially when compared with the section on the music video, which is perhaps a bit too overly detailed. The lead does not comply with WP:LEAD requirements and referencing is incomplete. I will allow up to seven days for all these issues to be fixed, before making any further decisions.

  • The lead issues are still not fixed. Please check every single sentence to make sure that they are reflected in the sections. Otherwise, it should not be in the lead.
  1. The lead should adequately summarize the content of the article. (GA criteria)
  2. There should not be anything in the lead not mentioned in the rest of the article. (GA criteria)
Examples: i) Music critics reviewing the song noted that "The Only Exception" was a different musical theme for the band. and ii) The song was featured on Gossip Girl in November 2009. - Where are these statements in the sections, and where are their references? (Hence, my comments about referencing being incomplete).
I did provide references to the song being a different musical style for them, and I was not the one who added mention of the song being featured in an episode of Gossip Girl, I've removed it. Crystal Clear x3 [talk] 13:56, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • There are also wikilinking issues. Wikilinks should only be made on the first mention, and not further down. They should not be repeated unless they are very far from its first mention. As this is a very short article, they should not be linked more than once. E.g. Paramore, Hayley Williams, Brand New Eyes, etc.
Actually, with every song article I've worked on, links are usually always included once in the lead, infobox and during some part of the article.... Crystal Clear x3 [talk] 13:56, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Punctuation problems are still not fixed. For instance, "The Only Exception" was released as the third single from the bands 2009 studio album Brand New Eyes in February 2010" - it should be "the band's studio album. These are very basic mistakes and should not be here at all. I also mentioned recasting this sentence above, "In December 2009, he was asked to direct "The Only Exception"'s music video." - Although it has been recast, the problem has not been fixed. The problem is " and ' next to each other, resulting in "'. The way to rewrite this would be: In December 2009, he was asked to direct the music video for "The Only Exception".
I've fixed the sentence in the music video section, and I'm currently working on grammar throughout the article.
Unfortunately, I am currently reviewing numerous GANs at the same time and do not have time to correct every single one. If I do, I will be spending all my time on copy edits. Nor is this the place for a WP:PR of the article. Please take up my suggestion to ask a third-party copy editor look at this. Sometimes, something that we have worked on for a long time benefits from having a third-party look at it, as we become too close to the work and no longer notice any errors that might be obvious to someone who is looking at it for the very first time. Thanks for all your hard work so far, and I hope that these issues can be resolved soon. Cheers. -- S Masters (talk) 03:21, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Final summary: Thank you for all your hard work. I am now satisfied that the article complies with the requirements for a Good Article. As such, I am happy to pass it for GA status. -- S Masters (talk) 15:23, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
