A Contradiction

Under the Trivia section, there seems to be some confusion about location of the filming site. Perhaps this should be clear? Mashford 21:47, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Yes, it looked a bit vague, hope my version is clearer. Kitanning was the main location for filming - apparently they tried Point Pleasant itself but it didn't seem to work. Must dig out my old Fortean Times article on the making of this. Totnesmartin 16:46, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

After the plot summary is an indication that the spoilers are over...but the trivia section mentions that the film features the deaths of 36 people in the bridge collapse at the end. Wouldn't you consider that a spoiler? Ettalynn 05:03, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Er, yes I would actually! i'll sort it. Totnesmartin 17:01, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Book V film

Could somebody who's read the book to a quick paragraph to say how the book and film tie up/diverge.

perfectblue 17:00, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

I have both so I'll do it. But it would take more that "a quick paragraph"... for a start I'd have to read it again (then cope with the post-reading-it fead f**k I always get). But basically there is a lot of divergence. I might also mention that women's first names in the film follow women's first names in the book, but are given to different characters. (eg the film's Mary is Klein's wife but the book's Mary edits Point Pleasant's newspaper). Totnesmartin 23:15, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

I was more thinking a "The film only deals with Chapter 2 of the book" (etc) kind of comparison, rather than a blow by blow.

perfectblue 08:59, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for saving me re-reading the whole book. Blow by blow is never good (I recently downsized a "plot outline" of a film that detailed every scene). I'll be on it in a bit, I've only just got up. Totnesmartin 13:34, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Filming Locations

Being that this is a factual encylopedia and not poetic license in a film, I feel that Pittsburgh and it's suburb of Kittaning as well as its municipal airport, mellon sq. etc. should feature more prominetly in this article. I am all for going into the storyline and plot of the film however people searching for the real scenes in the film should know what they are. Interested in hearing views on this. Hholt01 19:12, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

There used to be some in there, I'll dig them out of the history. If it's about the film, yeah, put it in, we're not up to 32k yet. Totnesmartin 22:52, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:The Mothman Prophecies DVD cover.jpg

Image:The Mothman Prophecies DVD cover.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:54, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Silver Bridge?

The following sentence appears at the end of the "Differences from the book" section: "In reality, 46 people died in the collapse of the Silver Bridge." Having read the whole article up to that point, I fail to see how this information pertains to the movie, especially to the comparison between the book and the movie. Perhaps some elaboration is in order? ChibiKareshi 14:08, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

In the film, it's a semi-important point that thirty-six people die in the collapse. I don't know what the book says, but it seems more like fiction vs. reality than book vs. film. 81.129.4.151 (talk) 10:52, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

I agree. That's why I added the "Differences from fact" heading. Also it's a convenient place to refer to that anachronistic mention of Chernobyl. I hope anyone who observed similar anachronisms will list them here. Dr-T — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dr-t (talkcontribs) 17:57, 24 March 2012 (UTC)

Box Office Bomb?

According to the info provided, the film cost an estimated 40 million (or 38 if the part about cutting 2 million before shooting began isn't factored in) and only made about 12 million. If this is true, its probably worth mentioning, especially since that puts it fairly high in the list of box office bombs here on Wikipedia based on percent of original budget earned back. 68.204.178.131 (talk) 01:07, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
