October 20th update

Someone please explain why my update to document the second winning jackpot of £130k last night (20th October 2006 - 2.15am) has been taken off?

Page length

the mints page- i think there is far too much unneccesary information on 'the mint'. They only play 4 or 5 games on a regular basis and writing about each one plus old games in great detail is a waste of space. If you look at other quiz channels pages - a summary is better.

Criticisms

Does it matter that the criticisms section is just copied from Quizmania's criticisms section? It still fits... i just dont know whether you would want to have information from one article just pasted onto another User:Rapidconfusion

Actually, it's the other way about - the criticisms were first created here, then added to Quizmania. (Incidentally, it's very difficult to write a criticism of the Mint or Quizmania on Wikipedia without fans of the show launching an edit war.) Anyway, maybe a separate article on 'Quiz TV Channels - Criticisms' would be appropriate. However, given the Gambling Commission's investigation into these channels, I'll happily put money on only one or two of these TV channels surviving into 2008 (say), which would probably render that article redundant. Since the times of games on itv play were re-shuffled most of the information on the mint is now incorrect.

What happened to the criticisms section? It doesn't seem to be there any more.

Add The Numbers

I think "Add the Numbers" should be added to the critisims. If you google:

"Add the numbers" mint

you'll find a lot of critisism on that type of puzzle they've been doing for a while. The current puzzle is:

NINTEEN MINUS FIVE =
4 + 3 x 2 =

6 - 5 =

Basicly they seem to be making up arbitrary rules which don't follow any consistant logic. There is a lot of conjecture as to what this means, for a start do you evaluate the expressions or just sum the digits? does multiplication come before addition? Some people say they use roman numerals, e.g. FIVE contains "IV", which is 4. Some people say it's digits on a mobile phone. F=3, I=4, V=8, E=3.

When one of these puzzles is solved, they do not explain the solution. With the previous one, it was pointed out by someone on a forum (i forget which, i think it was QuizTelly forum) that they acidentally flashed the answer on screen, this posably means that the winner did not work it out, they only saw this. I personally did not see that happen but I have seen them accidentally flash answers ot other puzzles so I would belive it.

I hesitate to add any of this to the main page as much of it is speculation. If anyone has anything substansial to contribute, please do. I find this puzzle iritating as it is illogical. I belive a few people have complained to OFCOM about this particular puzzle, or at least talked about doing so.

The Mint and Quizmania

The Quizmania is not an ITV produced show. It was commissioned by ITV, but not created. The Mint however was the idea of ITV.

Something that should be added to the criticism is The Mint Jackpot. Callers rarely ever get the chance to play for it. I think the last time i saw it the show went around two hours with only one caller having a chance to play. And whent he caller has to guess 4 (now 3) digits it will be a very long time before anyone wins it.

Bloody Hell

I wrote almost all of this entire article myself! Whenever anything needed changing or adding 95% of the time I was the one that did it. This is the last time I am going to make a full page from scratch as it was too much work! I know there were a few other helpers and if you did contribute something, thanks! Mint Extra: Find the Word

The Mint Extra started on Sat 9 September. Since then, for about 4 hours every show, they have played the same 'find the word' game. It is so frustrating that for about a days worth of TV, the same puzzle has been repeated. The Mint must be making so much money, it's unbelievable. Also, the amount of people who answer with the word DATA is stupid. Here is the puzzle for people who haven't been watching:

This is exactly the game I was thinking of the other day when talking to somebody about The Mint. I rarely watch the program but every time I switched it on this was the particular puzzle being played. I thought I'd never find out if there was an answer! Which reminds me - I heard a local London radio (LBC) presenter talking about The Mint and gave an example of a question - What can you find in a woman's handbag. The top answer? Rawlplug. Can anybody confirm that this is actually from The Mint and is genuine? Johan Aruba 20:30, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

No - the rawlplug and, amazingly, balaclava answers were on the show Quizmania, not The Mint.
