Anthony Gethryn: Colonel or General?
[edit]Gethryn has been identified with both ranks in various edits of this article. An 18 July 2010 edit by user Pierrem-m correctly states that he is called "General Gethryn" (by Inspector Pike) early in the film. I believe he's referred to as Colonel elsewhere in the movie but further research may prove otherwise. Gethryn is most definitely a Colonel in the Philip MacDonald novels, as described on pg. 14 of The Rasp, [1] the first Gethryn book. - I'm removing this from the article, as a personal comment disputing information in the article constitutes original research and has no place there.
- N.B. George C. Scott's character is not a Colonel, as stated in the first lines of this Wikipedia article, but a General. In an early scene of the film the character of Inspector Pike clearly asks "Shall I report to you or General Gethryn?".
- The article no longer makes any claim regarding Scott's character's rank. If the excised material is of any actual value, please replace it by making it part of the article and provide a reliable third-party citation. 71.200.134.47 (talk) 17:41, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
Black comedy?
[edit]User Kielhofer (in a 3 September 2010 edit) considers this film a black comedy. Unless he's referring to George C. Scott's somewhat erratic English accent, I fail to see the justification. Barring objections or further input I suggest removing this opinion from the opening paragraph.
