Review

[edit]

I'll start but, jbmurray, I'm afraid I'm doing all this in between other things--that's the best I can do right now. Sorry. Drmies (talk) 21:32, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

1. Well-written: I found a few things that need some tweaking already in the first section--please see my edit summaries.

  • "Vignettes" in the Synopsis--this is mentioned in the second paragraph, but really should be mentioned in the very first paragraph, with a link to Vignette (literature) and a reference: surely one of the critics or reviewers mentioned this.
  • I grabbed one paragraph from the Gender section and found some problems already; the article needs a strong copyedit for repetitive phrases, not so felicitous word use ("economic dependency on women" isn't good, and it's not a plural that can be "foundations").
  • The Chicano section--I'm not clear on why that is a separate section. "The House on Mango Street is an example of Chicano literature" seems like a truism that doesn't add much to anything. The next sentence might also fall under the gender heading. The last sentence might as well, but the problem then of course is that the whole Chicano thing is sort of erased from the article (after the Background). Then again, right now it's only three sentences and pales in comparison to the Gender section, for instance. So, I wonder if maybe this can be beefed up a bit, with (more) critical appreciation and evaluation of that aspect in the "Themes" section, since the Background section already frames it and prepares us for it.

2. Well verified: I'm early in the reviewing process but the "Sources" contain a plethora of peer-reviewed academic material and I anticipate no problems.

3. Coverage: this is fine.

4. Neutral: I see no problems here.

5. Stable: I see no problems here.

6. Images: no problems.

7. Copyright: I haven't found any problems yet.

Drmies, jbmurray, where does this stand? The only edits to the article appear to be by Drmies; jbmurray hasn't made any edits yet, and has only edited Wikipedia once in the past six weeks. Can we get this review moving again? Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:14, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • BlueMoonset, thank you--I think this will pass, after a rewrite and some reorganization... But I think jbmurray is an English prof (?), and so may well be busy with the online shift, and possibly preparation for summer classes. Drmies (talk) 15:14, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
