Inappropriateness: The Caste System & Innuendo
[edit]Surely there should be some mention of the subordinate nature of the sentiant creatures kept under the bonnet of the Hoobmobile, and stuffed into Roma's bike. These Motorettes appear to have nothing more to their lives than being driven to create music which powers the vehicles. Something quite odd and subliminally unpleasant about this, don't you think.
Also, there is a large amount of innuendo shoved into most episodes - be it with titles along the lines of "A Great Big Bonk" or just littering the Hoob speach. Yyem 15:22, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- If you can back it up with published sources rather than provide your own interpretations, feel free. —scarecroe 18:16, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed. It's impossible to prove that any such innuendo exists in The Hoobs because it's completely subjective, even though I sympathise. (There has been dialogue which made me double-take, but in some cases you'll hear whatever you're trying to listen for whether it's there or not.) The Holy ettlz 17:20, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Hoobs C4 microsite Groove likes offering Tula a play with his Hoobledangler on a regular basis - there is a pause and then he produces it
Motorettes They missed out - "are never allowed to leave the confines of the engine." One episode recently where they are removed by Tula & Groove, they run around like crazy trying to get free... Yyem 13:34, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
- Before you add anything to the article here, you should read WP:NOR. What you've provided here is situations from the show and your own conclusions... which don't belong on Wikipedia. —scarecroe 16:30, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
Fair enough - i'll leave well alone and live with my deductions :) Yyem 12:07, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
I don't think it is quite fair to apply our own human morality to that of an alien civilization that we know so little about. We can surmise that the Motorettes are sentient/sapient, but this does not automatically mean our values about what that entails should be relevent to them. It is also important to note that know nothing about the origin of the Motorettes. Perhaps, as their appearance and name (motorettes) suggests, they are artificial beings, created by the Hoobs for the express purpose of running and maintaining their music based technology. In which case the Hoobs, in characteristic fashion, have given them a natural inclination to carry out that task gladly - not so much slaves as machines that feel joy when they carries out their purpose. The other possibility is that the Motorettes are a naturally occurring native Hoobland species who have formed an alliance with the Hoobs to free themselves from day to day affairs, so that they might devote themselves to their primary love, that of music. In this case again, it is not so much that the Motorettes are slaves, more that the two species form a symbiotic relationship: the Motorettes get an environment in which to create music to their hearts' content free from outside interference and the Hoobs get a safe, carbon neutral and aesthetically pleasing power source. In conclusion, I think it is rather humanocentric to assume such a dark side to the Hoobs, of whom all other evidence point to as being completely peaceable and harmless, when there are multiple other less sinister explanations for the observed behaviour. --86.137.155.142 02:37, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Note for article editors and vandal reverters
[edit]This is just a quick note to those who help to clean up this article when it gets vandalised. I have just reverted back to the Last Known Good Version of this article, and you should be aware that someone who edited the article, an IP, marked that they were reverting vandalism, when in fact, they missed it totally.
Can those reverting please ensure that the version they revert to is clean of vandalism before committing the edit? Thanks for your help, and continued efforts to keep this article clean. Thor Malmjursson 02:53, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Death Metal
[edit]Someone told me the hoobs are a death metal band. I'm going to change it. 18:17, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
- "Someone told me..." isnt encyclopedic. If you think there is a band with the same name, make a seperate article. TR (talk) 02:51, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Dorothy and Auntie Hattie
[edit]I think there should be some mention of Dorothy and Auntie Hattie. We never see them but they are referred to often, mostly by Hubba Hubba (Auntie Hattie) and Roma (Dorothy). They feature too often to be completely ignored here. 193.35.132.150 (talk) 04:42, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
- I suppose they could get a mention if we can get it in there suitably, but I dont think they need their own section or anything, they are only mentioned in passing, and not particularly integral to the storylines. TR (talk) 05:49, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
Motorettes
[edit]As the article now stands the motorettes are only mentioned once in reference to their responses to what where why questions. It is never mentioned who they are. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.58.195.85 (talk) 15:20, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
