Multiple issues

[edit]

This article has multiple issues:

  • Notability of the newspaper needs to be established with references to independent sources with non trivial coverage of the publication. See also WP:GNG.
  • A previous editor has stated he or she has added information from first-hand knowledge. This is considered original research which is not allowed on this Wikipedia. See also WP:OR.
  • The article needs additional references so readers can verify the information. Multiple paragraphs in the article don't have proper source references, which are now marked with a "citation needed" notice. See also WP:V.

Please don't remove the warnings at the top of the article without addressing these issues first. – Editør (talk) 08:20, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your "citation needed" notices were placed on issues which can easily be derived from reading the paper. Surely we don't need to find an extra source for the fact that the paper covers news, written by journalists? What's next, that we need to find an independent source for the fact that it contains both text and images? Wikipedia readers aren't idiots. And what do you mean by "notability of the newspaper needs to be established with references to independent sources"? Do you need another website to verify that the Holland Times exist? Just go to the many places where you can get a copy and get one yourself. PPP (talk) 19:05, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
On Wikipedia, notability refers to whether a subject merits its own article or not. Generally notability can be established by using references to independent sources with non trivial coverage of the publication. The page Wikipedia:Notability explains all about notability on Wikipedia. – Editør (talk) 20:39, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
What you're basically saying - in other words - is that you want external sources that verify this newspaper's existence, or at least whether or not it's important enough to have its own article. Like I said, if you don't believe it exists, you could just grab a copy (and if you really need other websites for it, here's one or two). Whether it's important enough is a matter of opinion. The only national, English written newspaper in the country is surely important enough for me. PPP (talk) 11:58, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It is not about verifying its existence, but about whether it merits its own article on Wikipedia. To determine notability, there is always a degree of subjectivity, however there is also a clear guideline: "If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list." At the section WP:GNG, the guideline is explained in detail. – Editør (talk) 14:11, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
