COI editing

This article was almost entirely written by @User:Viking2917, whose userpage states that they are the founder of The Hawaii Project. I thank them for declaring this conflict of interest (COI). However, writing a Wikipedia article on one's own company and inserting a largely unsourced biography of oneself is not appropriate, even if the COI is declared. Further, the COI declaration was published on 11 December 2017, almost a year after they created this article on 22 January 2016, so the COI was not declared at the time. Viking2917 has since made good contributions to Wikipedia, but they should refrain from making content edits to this article.

On account of this seemingly undiscovered COI, I recently checked all the sources in the article and slapped on a bunch of maintenance tags. I doubt the article could be deleted at AfD, since the subject does seem notable, but the article needs some cleanup and many of the older sources can only be found in the Internet Archive. I am pinging Viking2917 out of courtesy in case they are able to provide citations for the unsourced claims in the article. If this message goes unanswered for a week or so I (or any other willing editor) will remove any remaining unsourced information. Toadspike (talk) 14:39, 12 April 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. When I originally wrote that article, I don't think I understood the ground rules for (not) writing about oneself, and conflict of interest. Apologies for that.

If it's felt that deleting the article is appropriate I have no objection.

There are a few places where "citation needed" or "verification failed" is indicated. Per this conversation I have refrained from making any edits, but the following are suggestions for those.

Thank you for your response! I appreciate your politeness and your providing replacement sources. I will fix the citations as soon as possible and remove any remaining parts that don't seem appropriate/relevant (e.g. the personal career history). I've revised the article, now everything it says is corroborated by the sources cited. It could possibly still be expanded with these or other sources, but the baseline of verifiability has been met. Toadspike (talk) 09:04, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
