Academic analysis of the book
[edit]I found this: [1], and I'm going to try and see if I can include some of the interpretations of the book presented in the article. Doanri (talk) 09:30, 29 June 2018 (UTC)
Very good, although I'd found the piece, I only just now realized that "talk" had been started. MinnesotanUser (talk) 02:27, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
Possibilities for general improvement
[edit]Possible avenues for improvement of the article at this stage include:
-detailed (but not overly so) synopsis,
-language discussing motivation for publication of work (a theme which keeps coming up in the citations: (why this book? why now? What makes Xi so special as opposed to Jintao, etc)),
-language indicating western interpretation of the work as "dry, boring" etc (easily backed up in the cites)
-language indicating that sundry "policy wonks" (just such as Swaine) regard the work as important or useful esp as a clear signal for what China wants and where it's headed etc,
-an articulation of "the Chinese Dream" as a distinct ideal,
-brief, illustrative quotes from the work in the synopsis,
-broader Chinese literary cultural context of work. I admit to not being knowledgeable of Chinese classics, but the style of presentation in both Mao LRB and GOC seems like it's part of an ancient cultural extraction, esp. checking the article for Book of Documents. This is worth a sentence or two if it is an accurate appraisal, and can be framed properly.
-editing this article has gotten me thinking about "Chinese numbered policies.", and I'm pretty confident that there's lots of stuff on wiki not categorized as such which can and should be.
