Amy's vs Doctor's room

[edit]

In the plot summary, I originally put that they took Amy to her room (we know that it was marked as #7 from earlier in the episode) where young Amelia waited. There was a change to this challenging that it was the Doctor's room (marked #11, and then which he added Do Not Disturb to). I am pretty sure that we do see the door number plate again as #7 though I do not recall looking for the Do Not Disturb hanger before, but I'm not in a position to check. I do remember that that hanger "felt" off a door as the simulation folded up around them, but that's not an assurance that that was the door the others were in when the beast fell.

For now, I'm leaving it as "a room", until I can rewatch that part from home. But again, I'm sure that it is Amy's room they returned to, and not the Doctor's as it would not make much sense plot-wise. --MASEM (t) 17:23, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • We do see that amys room was number 7 when she first opens in
  • We also see that the doctors room is number 11 when he first opens it
  • The doctor clearly puts a do not disturb sign on his room
  • When these rooms are first opened we do not see what is inside.

- Also the numbers mean that they are definitly two different rooms.

I believe we agree about all of the facts which i have mentioned to this point

At the end when they run into a room you do not see the door number, it is ether to far away or covered by one of the characters at all times. at some point during the sceen (but not at the start of it) you see the do not disturb sign fall of the door. Iconofsin1 (talk) 18:08, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Just a comment, but we see a sign fall off a door. Which door it was is a matter of interpretation. DonQuixote (talk) 18:11, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Think the room is Amy's due to it being her as a little girl. Her fear obviously was the Doctor leaving her/not coming back. So by that it was Amy's room. Numbers 11 refers to it's the eleventh Dr and 7 is Amy's age when she met him. Globalwheels (talk) 18:36, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It goes without saying that the room they were in was Amy's room. However, because of the editing, it's open to interpretation as to which door was shown when the simulation was turned off. DonQuixote (talk) 18:49, 19 September 2011 (UTC)#[reply]

I would say that the fact that we see a sign fall off the door proves that it was the doctors room because when the doctor places the sign on his door the audiences attention was drawn to this, it was obviously a deliberate action which had some significance. also when the doctor opens his door he says "of course who else" meaning he saw a person. When amy opens her door she said "it was weird" implying that it was not something as obvious as a person.Iconofsin1 (talk) 19:00, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's a good point. Let's wait until a secondary source says something before we accidentally cross over into POV, interpretation and OR. DonQuixote (talk) 19:04, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The episode is avaliable on BBCI, a direct link could be provided for it as a source do videos count as valid sources? and if so can we use a link which is only avaliable in the UK (BBCI cannot be accessed outside of the UK) Iconofsin1 (talk) 19:09, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

We're not doubtful of the events that: Amy opened door 7, Doctor open door 11, Doctor placed DND tag on door, room that Doctor took Amy took Amy to had young Amelia in it, and in the end of the simulation, a DND tag fell from a nearby door. That's what can be sourced to the primary work.
What we can't source (and I would need to double check) is exactly which door the Doctor took Amy to, nor is the door that the tag fell from the same room they entered. It would be OR to make any connection without either a third-party source to identify that, or something clearly obvious (like the door number on the last room) from the primary work. I'm planning on double checking my itunes copy later just to make sure there's no obvious hints (one thing we can't use, for example, is the fact that door 7 was at the end of a cooridor, but the door opened at the end in a hall, because of the morphic nature of the setting, we can't discount that room as #7). Plotwise, to me, it makes very little (some, but very little) sense for the Doctor's room to contain Amelia waiting, particularly given the arc of the Doctor's death looming and the sound of cloister bells; and makes a world of sense if it was Amy's, fearing the Doctor would never return for her (tying in to the last episode), but that's all OR without sourcing. --MASEM (t) 19:50, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am somewhat certain (but not 100% certain) that you see the do not disturb sign fall when the camera is INSIDE the room with young amy in it, theirfore it must have come from that rooms door. In any case there i feal that there is no doubt that the room the do no disturb sign fell from had to be the room the doctor put a do not disturb sign on - that is room 11.Iconofsin1 (talk) 00:43, 20 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've just rewatched, and can 100% positively say its door 7 : at 38:57 (iTunes version), the Doctor has just told Amelia he's a mad man with a box; cut to a shot of the beast, already in the room, stagging back, and you can clearly see #7 on the door, also visible as the Doctor leaves Amelia.
Also, when they are opening the door, we're cut to inside the room (37:21): Rory's openng the door, but there is clearly no DND tag on the handle. --MASEM (t) 01:16, 20 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, #7. Ratemonth (talk) 02:20, 20 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have also watched it again I saw that it read no7 on the door and i didnt see the DND sign fall when i watched it again. so right now i believe i was wrong when I said that i saw the sign fall - but I will check one more time soon just to be sure. Iconofsin1 (talk) 03:22, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also, when the Doctor opens his door you can hear the sound of the Tardis coming from inside, so even though you don't get to see what/who is there, I don't think it would make sense for it to be the room with Amelia. I think that was significant. 138.253.161.140 (talk) 11:14, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cleaning Up Grammar

This sentence in the Critical Reviews section: " The main part of the episode Martin felt that it was "like a runaround bolted on to make way for the ending."" is confusing.

Just a few issues:

  • Plot: "before they end up killed" I would put 'getting' before 'killed'
  • Plot: "Gifting them with a new house and new car" I think you can remove the iteration of 'new' before car
  • Reception: "beaten by direct competition" I would change 'competition' to 'competitor'
  • Reception: It's not a huge deal, but I think 'mixed to positive' reads a little easier than 'positive to mixed', IMHO
  • Reception: "io9's Charlie Jane Anders was more positive" The sentence right before this quote was not negative, so the 'more positive' remark should probably be removed and replaced with 'positive as well' or something
  • Reception: "Neela Debnath, writing for The Independent, also gave a positive reviews" Reviews should just be 'review'

Only those small issues. On hold for seven days to straighten those out!--Gen. Quon (talk) 02:48, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, I don't, that's why I didn't write it on the page. It was jus an idea that has to be verified. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.34.49.45 (talk) 19:50, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ha, you know what's extremely ironic? That song is playing on the radio now... Glimmer721 talk 20:58, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I made an edit pointing out the Oranges & Lemons is also featured heavily in Nineteen Eighty-Four, as I thought it was relevant, considering the previous mention of the links between the story line and Room 101 in Nineteen Eighty-Four. Why was this deleted?Magpieram (talk) 05:02, 1 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

We need a reliable source to point that out and think it's relevant. DonQuixote (talk) 13:00, 1 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It should be noted that the Doctor called Rory Mickey in this episode. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 180.190.145.41 (talk) 11:17, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

First of all that is trivia, second of all it is actually "Beaky" (a joke about his nose). Glimmer721 talk 18:35, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Continuity section and the Doctor's room

[edit]

The Continuity paragraph says, "in The Time of the Doctor, it is revealed that he saw the crack in the universe," and as citation, links to a blog post. However, the blog post is the only place making this claim, does so without providing any citations itself, and (most importantly) this is disproved by simply watching the episode. We've just finished re-watching Time of the Doctor looking for any mention at all of the prison/hotel/room, and there is none. While I don't have a problem with the idea that the crack is what the Doctor saw in his room, I strongly believe that this is original research. If somebody can cite an actual scene in Time of the Doctor as verification, I'll accept it, but until then I'm removing that assertion from the sentence. 107.9.45.143 (talk) 05:16, 6 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
