Talk:The Father of Hollywood

De-prod
[edit]I de-PRODded this page because there are 2 wikipedia articles that mention "Father of Hollywood". I then boldly blanked the page and redirected it to the same target as Father of Hollywood. At that target (H.J. Whitley) I added a citation to legitimize the claim and added a hatnote pointing to Charles E. Toberman, the other possibility. - Fine. I haven't looked at your changes (I will do so when I am through with other stuff), but I applaud anybody's WP:BRD efforts to improve the encyclopedia. Your friend, BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 18:17, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
DeMille and Griffiths
[edit]I've added Demille and Griffith as sourcing shows they have also been called "the father of Hollywood". DeMille: source, source, "DeMille was often spoken of as the father of Hollywood", "But DeMille was also unquestionably the founding father of Hollywood ", source.
Griffith: source, source, source, source, source.

- The source I saw referred to him as the "father of Hollywood motion pictures," not "of Hollywood." BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 06:13, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- I have gone to significant effort to find the sourcing. Why don't you try reading them, as they clearly say "father of Hollywood". It is by nature an ambiguous term. Hence the DAB. Possibly (talk) 06:17, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- DeMille is also called "the founding father of Hollywood" in The art of the American film, 1900-1971 by Charles Higham. Internet Archive link. If one searches the Internet Archive for the term, it's plain to see that several people (including Charlie Chaplin) have been called the "father of Hollywood". Ergo: disambiguation page. Sources for DeMille and Griffith
[edit]I couldn't find any sources that DeMille and Griffith were called "Father of Hollywood," so I took them out but was reversed. This is the place for discussion. Can we have a readable source about these two gentleman being referred to by that exact term, or at least a quotation therefrom? WP:Bold, revert, discuss. Thank you. BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 06:05, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, I am adding sources, see above. They are not hard to find. I am not sure it is strictly necessary, as DAB pages do not require sources. Possibly (talk) 06:07, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you. The sources should also be placed into the articles about the two luminaries. Best wishes. BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 06:09, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- If they were there when I looked this evening, well, I missed them. BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 06:10, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you. The sources should also be placed into the articles about the two luminaries. Best wishes. BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 06:09, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
@Possibly: I remind editors of this page that it is a disambiguation page: a page that lists articles that are or might otherwise be called "Father of Hollywood". Therefore, a mention of "Father of Hollywood" must appear in the target article (not here) (as BeenAround states above). The relevant guideline is MOS:DABMENTION and is widely enforced. This article could be reformatted as a list or stub article such as "List of people known as Father of Hollywood", in which case references could be cited, and this Talk page would then be an appropriate place to discuss them. - @Shhhnotsoloud: OK then, I have reverted my changes to the DAB page until I get around to including the sources in the target. A list is also a fine idea. Thanks. Possibly (talk) 09:21, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
