1895 or 1896

The clip in this article is not of the 1895 Derby. The 1895 race took place in fine weather and saw the first three finish close together, whereas the clip shows overcast weather and the first two are well clear of the rest. The racing colours of the winner are also completely wrong. Tigerboy1966 06:04, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Most definitely 1896, with Persimmon in the Prince of Wales's colours passing first just in front of the favourite St Frusquin. The camera is placed some way after the line, as it is clear the horses are being eased down as they move into shot. There is film footage of the 1895 race online, but this is the 1896 footage.Zarzuelauk (talk) 12:30, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
