Seduce

[edit]

I would claim the girl date-rapes her brother, due to his diminished capacity due to alcohol. I am assuming that she was NOT drunk, but he was, which qualifies for my definition of date rape. Other input? 66.41.66.213 17:25, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's hard to remember the movie, but I read the book more recently and I got the impression she was lying about that. It's common for people who have been abused to think/claim it's their fault because they feel guilty, or it makes them feel like they have more control over what happened. I think it's at least meant to be ambiguous whether she's telling the truth.Gorramdoll (talk) 03:44, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's been a while since I've seen the movie, so please correct me if I get the details wrong... As I remember it, at 14 the girl tells about having sex with her brother when she was 12 and her bro was 16: i.e. When she was 12 she decided that she wanted to have sex. She propositioned her brother, and he turns her down. Days later, when she knew that her brother was drunk, she asked him again, and they had sex. Regardless of how the book portrays it, in the movie it does not seem like a sexual assault by her brother. C sloth (talk) 19:40, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

More precisely, she blackmailed him, threatening to tell their parents about his use of marijuana, but the key point is that Tim acted rashly, based on a false assumption. Did it lead to his death is another question. Doug butler (talk) 05:38, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion

I'm deleting the entirely unnecessary and non-NPOV analysis under the section "Plot". Willpower 03:51, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dog

[edit]

I think that under the plot should include the scene with the dog. It's kind of an important scene, as it relies heavily on foreshadowing of future events and it is not even mentioned here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.45.205.56 (talk) 22:04, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
