God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings
[edit]I know that this is how the song has been long credited, which makes it very difficult to correct, but it appears the attribution of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings" being recorded at WPLT Planetfest is the wrong show.
The song's first appearance on the Barenaked Ladies' first fan club CD lists "WPLT Planetfest, December 1996". However, Planetfest was a Summer concert at Pine Knob. Barenaked Ladies played Planetfest in August 1996, but it doesn't seem that Sarah did. The two of them played the same radio station's "Holiday Hootenanny" together on December 8, 1996 at The Palace at Auburn Hills, which is where many interviews say that the song was recorded, and which matches the month the credits say the song was recorded. It makes far more sense for that to have been the show it was recorded at. Finally, 96.3FM didn't change it's call letters to WPLT until mid-1997 according to it's wikipedia article (it's now WDVD), which is after both 1996 Planetfest and Holiday Hootiananny took place, but before the song was first put on the fan club CD and credited at WPLT Planetfest. I know this is original research, so it can't go in the article, but I thought it should be at least here on the talk page. TheHYPO (talk) 08:52, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
