New Section: Difference between the book and series
[edit]The main differences are, in the series:
- Borlú had a wife, Katrynia Perla, who was also a student of Orciny and a follower of Bowden.
- Syedr was pressured to resign, causing nationalist riots in Besźel; rather than a massive traffic collision causing a full city-and-city-wide unificationist breach (the latter being orchestrated by the antagonists).
- Part 3: Breach (Episode 4). Rather than the series introducing a whole new Breach department (and cast) for the final episode, Besźel detective Corwi was an undercover Breach agent. The climax did not occur with Bowden walking 'between' the cities, with Dhatt and Corwi following him together-but-unseen. Instead the final confrontation happened in a warehouse where Bowden shot Borlú, who had a near-death experience in which he had a vision of his wife, Katrynia, inviting him into Orciny; the implication was that Orciny is an afterlife.
