{{For reference, this comment is also listed on the talk pages about the church's activities in Montana and South Dakota.} Since there really isn't much to this page, including contributions from editors over time, not sure how much visibility this topic will receive. However, I wanted to raise a question about recent good faith edits, since this is how consideration of issues are dealt with, rather than direct messages between editors. Viewing the history, it will be noted that I have removed the good faith edits to add every ward and branch which currently exist in North Dakota. As the edit summaries indicate, I do not think these are warranted based on WP not being a directory. Additionally, it's also not easy to verify the information through secondary sources, to maintain the list over time, or have the listing of each be at all notable (in the WP sense). Using a Google maps link, or directing to a general search on the church's website do not meet the standard of reliable sources. I would recommend they be deleted, but certainly would be open to WP community consensus. Those wishing to edit the article would typically express the reasoning or justification for why the listing is warranted. (I don't necessarily disagree with part of the notion that the stakes aren't that notable, although they don't tend to change as much, particularly in some geographical areas, perhaps like North Dakota.) Finally, any editors who potentially have a conflict of interest, either through being paid or as assigned volunteers, should be sure to disclose such. Looking at this, in this case there's only 3 stakes. I think it's ok under 3 conditions: 1) Wards and Branches belong in Stakes/Districts and should be grouped accordingly. 2) A leading sentence with a date should be provided. A leader sentence may appear like "As of May 2021, North Dakota had the following stakes, wards, and branches:" (Stake A, Wards and Branches in A; Stake B, Wards and Branches in B) or A stake has Meetinghouses in TownA, TownB, TownC. 3) The number of Stakes, Wards, and Branches should generally not be more than 20 or 30. This page is primarily an article and not a listing. I don't want to see a list of Utah's 5,000 congregations, but I don't mind seeing a short list of UAE's 6 congregations.
Also going back to item 2. The date shows how recent the info is...for the same reason you wouldn't say "today there are x number of...". What is today referring to? Especially if it doesn't get updated in a while.Dmm1169 (talk) 03:58, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
