Number One Television Show in Australia?

[edit]

Is it true that The Champions was Number One in the Australian ratings? Eligius (talk) 02:49, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Connections with 'Shangri-La'

[edit]

Interesting there is no mention of the heavy use of themes from the 1930s book Lost Horizon in The Champions. This book was so popular it came the USA & UK's first "mass-market" paperback. They even made a couple of popular films of it in 1937 & 1973.

Common Themes

[edit]
  • Westerners crashes in a plane deep in the Himalayas mountains
  • People are rescue by mysterious monks and taken to a fantastic place called Shangri-La
  • The rescued are healed and given long life and state of purpose

This book and film was hugely popular in the USA & UK at the time. So perhaps it remained in Dennis Spooner's mind?

Footnote: It's widely believed the Lost Horizon book was in turn based on a real Tibetans legend called Shambhala. Who would have thought it?

Canadian Broadcast

[edit]

I'm pretty sure it was broadcast here, probably on the CBC, but have no data. 108.173.94.58 (talk) 20:11, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
