Date of foundation
[edit]There seems to be some disagreement about the date the Institute was founded. Archived copies of the Institute's own website (for example this one, from February 2001) say 1999, as does Shaw 3 vol II, but an anonymous contributor just appended the following note to the article page:
- Date of 1999 is incorrect. It was founded in 1989 (Burgon Society emails library)
The Yahoo! academic dress mailing list has a message dated 7 May 2000 (here, but only readable by members of the list) in which the then Clerk to Council says "The CIL was founded originally in 1989, but attracted few new members. At the end of 1999, it was resolved to change the constitution and format of the Institute". Does anyone have any further details of this earlier period of the CIL's history? -- Nicholas Jackson (talk) 23:43, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
