This article needs revising
[edit]It is unencyclopaedic and using Wikipedia as a method of advertising and self-promotion.
The photograph has already been listed for deletion by another user as it carries no copyright or fair use information.
As a preliminary measure, I'm removing the band's upcoming dates, as they simply have no place here.
Furthermore, the subjects do not appear to meet Wikipedia's notability criteria. I propose that this article is listed for deletion and if no-one objects or justifies the article's existence within the next few days I'll proceed. Newartriot 13:45, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
Notability
[edit]Doesn't seem to be any. I'll change the article to a redirect to Brakes tomorrow if there are no objections. Newartriot 14:18, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- I saw your help desk post. If you don't think the article satisfies WP:MUSIC (I haven't examined it and have no opinion), then I think you should take it to WP:AfD with a recommendation to Delete and redirect. It does claim notability so it doesn't seem to be a candidate for speedy deletion. Just redirecting to an unrelated article after talk page posts may be a circumvention of Wikipedia:Deletion policy. - I have suggested deletion. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Brakes. PrimeHunter 18:43, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
It's notability is that it was taken by a fan and put on this website as a reference to the band named The Brakes and not the UK band formerly known as Brakes. They are now releasing records under the name Brakes Brakes Brakes due to the fact that they were unknowingly illegally using the name The Brakes.Jesscosca 06:13, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- The name change applies to US releases only. It's happened before - Suede became The London Suede for example, but this wouldn't have been sufficient criteria to have warrented an article about the virtually unknown US band Suede. The band that this article concerns seem to have limited notability in their own right under the criteria set out by Wikipedia for such cases (though I'd be interested in seeing any). Furthermore, despite improvements, it still requires revision and I'm not sure I'm the right person to do it. Newartriot 02:56, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- In Wikipedia discussions, "notability" refers to Wikipedia:Notability (see also Wikipedia:Notability (music) in this case). The best way to show a topic is notable enough for a Wikipedia article is usually to provide Wikipedia:Reliable sources satisfying "topic is notable if it has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, reliable published works, whose sources are independent of the subject itself". Having dedicated fans or being involved in a name dispute does not make something notable for Wikipedia. Note: I have not expressed any opinion on whether The Brakes are notable. My deletion suggestion was "procedural" because another editor had suggested deletion outside the official channels in Wikipedia:Deletion policy. A third editor User:John Broughton has provided references which (in my opinion) makes it likely that the article will be kept. Without his work it might have been deleted as looking like an advertisement and lacking references showing notability. If it's kept (maybe decided tomorrow) then you might consider thanking him at User talk:John Broughton. PrimeHunter 14:18, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:BrakesEP1.jpg
[edit]Image:BrakesEP1.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
