"two-and-a-half lengths" - do we need the dashes?

"The winning time for the race was 20 minutes 52 seconds." - I think "for the race" can probably be trimmed out as it's obvious on context

Background

"The coaches for Cambridge were Donaldson" - who is Donaldson (first mention in the article)
Yeah, weird one this, "Donaldson" is referenced as such, no first name, not even a clue as to whether Donaldson was a man or a woman or a dog or a horse. Just plain old Donaldson. So I've gone with the RS. I did do some sniffing around, no results. Sorry about that.... The Rambling Man (talk) 19:22, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
