As the son of a 20-year department head and buyer at the Blum Store, I can say that this article is reasonably accurate. The main point that's missing is the novelty of a downtown department store, which was not part of a larger chain, establishing branches as its customer base migrated from Philadelphia proper to suburbs beyond City Line, starting with the Bala Cynwyd store.
As for the objection that this article is an orphan, not referred to elsewhere, crosslinks could be added to and from the histories of other Philadelphia department stores which went through similar patterns of rise and fall.
