Removing an uninstantiated generalization
[edit]"For non-Aborigines, the Block has assumed a notorious reputation for violence and crime". Even if the source referenced claimed this, its should be attributed to the source, rather than all non-Aborigines. However the source actually makes no such claim about non-Aborigines, so I will remove it. The source referenced was: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/australiaandthepacific/australia/8013160/Sydneys-notorious-Aboriginal-ghetto-to-be-demolished.html
Of cause, there is historic hostile actions from whites directed at the block. I think these should actual instances should be referenced rather than generalizing, or at the very least, find a reputable source that makes the generalization and quote that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.149.48.174 (talk) 13:11, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- Disagree. The article is mostly a rose-tinted attempt at presenting the Block as some sort of utopian social experiment, when in the wider local community in Redfern and metropolitan Sydney as a whole its primary reputation is as a violent ghetto hostile to the wider community. It's notable that this is one of the very few sentences which are actually referenced. All the rosy language that precedes it is not, and should really go. --62.189.73.197 (talk) 14:16, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
Agree, dubious conclusion and violation of WP:NPOV. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rubyyacht (talk • contribs) 06:51, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
Citations
[edit]This article needs a lot of additional citing for many of its statements, especially in the first two paragraphs of the 1972 section. The Redfern Riot section is also a stub and needs to be removed as a section or rolled into a single section with the aftermath.131.217.255.209 (talk) 07:47, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
