I'll have a go at this one. It reads well and is well cited and structured so my comments will be brief. Chiswick Chap (talk) 14:19, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Comments

[edit]

I've added a little punctuation.

  • Why do we need to know his age, wife?
  • Perhaps "where MacIntyre was raised. As a child, MacIntyre was raised..." is not ideal with the repeated verb. Maybe reword.
  • "In an ecclesiastical context, the term bishop's man refers to the title of vicar general, who serves as the diocesan bishop's principal deputy for the exercise of administrative authority or refers to the title of auxiliary bishop, a priest who is consecrated as an episcopal assistant to the local ordinary." is rather complex. Perhaps split it; and I think probably it needs restructuring, making it clear up front that there are 2 possible meanings.
  • "is noted as one of": why not drop the "noted as"?
  • "to coverup priests who had behaved improperly ranging from priests who had x or y to z": Perhaps "to cover for priests who had behaved improperly, whether they had done x, y, or z".
  • Since you are using Month Day, Year format for dates, the archivedate parameter should also use that more readable format rather than YYYY-MM-DD format (2 occurrences).
  • While we're on dates, there's no point providing "Retrieved" dates for newspaper articles which have permanent dates already.

Summary

[edit]

That's about it from me. It's a worthy article and I'll be happy to award it GA status when these few items have been addressed. Chiswick Chap (talk) 15:28, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for reading and for the input. I made the edits accordingly. Any further input is welcome. Regarding the first point above, the 'Background' section is to provide the context in which the book was created. I'm trying to say the novel was written by an experienced author and journalist...later in his life...in the companionship of another like-minded author-journalist (eg. this book is not the product of a young, inexperienced author). I tried to integrate this better is the above edit. maclean (talk) 18:14, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That was quick! I hope you are pleased with the result, and will take the time to review one or two articles from the ever-growing GAN queue: there is no quid-pro-quo but it would be much appreciated. Chiswick Chap (talk) 19:14, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
