The Bet (my but)
[edit]The Bet (Drake & Josh episode) was apparently at The Bet at one point so this was redirecting there. I'll probably move the dab page to The Bet since that is likely the better choice given the number of uses and more the short story to The Bet (short story). Current Set-up, Descendants
[edit]1. Do we need to have the whole short story here?
2. There's also an episode of the original "The Twilight Zone" that is a variant of "The Bet." The section of knock-offs could be expanded.

The version of "The Bet" that is being citing in the bibliography is NOT correct. The lawyer leaves five HOURS before the time fixed, not five minutes. I have corrected the article once again and added two references supporting my change to the bibliography section.
Unreferenced
[edit]Despite only being a plot summary, it needs a reference. For instance, some versions of the story have the lawyer leaving five minutes before noon while others have him leaving five hours. That needs to be referenced and possibly explained. Even the summary should be referenced to confirm it's not WP:OR. Walter Görlitz (talk) 02:02, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
- And so today an anon changed it from five hours to five minutes. The project Gutenberg version at http://www.gutenberg.org/files/13437/13437-8.txt states the latter: "I
shall come out from here five minutes before the stipulated term, and thus shall violate the agreement". Although, to be clear, the renunciation states the time, but the story itself does not stipulate how long before the time the lawyer actually leaves. I have restored it, but a reference for the information should be found to avoid unnecessary edit wars. Walter Görlitz (talk) 02:10, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- Is there a problem with using the Gutenberg version (and then the tag can be removed)? I believe the version I have also says five minutes, but it's in a modern anthology. If there is a discrepancy in texts then that's something that should developed in a different section in the article and would need research and appropriate sourcing. - No problem using it, but the points need to be referenced since they are all likely to be challenged. Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:22, 5 December 2013 (UTC)
