The Threetles

[edit]

Why shouldn't John Lennon be in that line-up? He was still the lead vocalist, guitar, piano and songwriter --Surachit 09:32, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I'll put him in later today if no one else says not to by then. --luckymustard 12:29, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Let's do this -- and at the same time get rid of the "Threetles" nickname as there will now be four.Cbben (talk) 15:24, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Post-Beatles

[edit]

Since pre-Beatles line-ups are listed, why shouldn't we list post-Beatles line-ups? Really, this is very related to something I'm trying to work out how to do here on Wikipedia, which is rock family trees. I've tried talking about doing this in one of the projects pages but no response. Maybe it was the wrong place, or very inactive project. Can anyone help me find the right place, or an active project? Thanks. --luckymustard 11:45, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tree

[edit]

I propose that we substitute this listing of line-ups with a tree that I have created, User:Eric Jack Nash/Sandbox/BeatlesTree. I'll make this change in a day or so if no one objects. Thanks. --luckymustard 15:39, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ringo's post-Beatles bands; Traveling Wilburies

[edit]

Ringo's All-Starr Band? Ringo and the Roundheads? Shouldn't these be added to Ringo's post-Beatles thing? SOmeone should also add the Traveling Wilburies to George's. Monkeyfinger 05:21, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I forgot about the Wilburies. I'll try to get to those later today, or even later, unless someone else gets to them first. Thanks. --luckymustard 12:14, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead and added the Wilburys (both lineups). Anyone who would like to add Jim Keltner/Ray Cooper/etc. is free to. Emperornortonx 17:52, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Quarrymen

[edit]

This is wrong. Pete Shotton was in it, I´m sure. --andreasegde 16:17, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Chaz Newby played with The Beatles in the Casbah after they came back from Hamburg. --andreasegde 12:06, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article format

[edit]

Almost two months ago, Andreasegde rewrote the article in tree format. I have just restored the original chart-style format of the article (with a few modifications). The tree format was an interesting concept, but I think a lot of people would find the chart format easier to read. --71.96.186.14 20:58, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I was the one who changed it over to a tree format. I haven't been too active lately with Wikipedia, so no big deal with me. If I do get active again, then maybe I'll change it back, or maybe we can come up with a way to have both. --luckymustard 23:29, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I love the tree concept, but it was getting a bit hard to follow. Perhaps when you return to Wikipedia you could revisit the idea, maybe splitting the tree up or something? There's also redundancy with e.g. the Quarrymen article. --kingboyk 14:34, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Plastic Ono Bands

[edit]

okay I am a moron first of all I screwed up the formatting for that chart but I have creditted information to put in there because john worked with more people

Article/chart format

[edit]

We have some good contributions (example) coming in (some of it from The Complete Beatles Chronicle) that don't fit well in The Beatles. It's all lineup-related, and I was wondering if some changes in this article could be made to house it. Proposals:

  • Edit table for third column, entitled something like Notes, for stuff like "furiously left the group in a drunken haze while returning home from Prescot"
  • Add a section for brief profiles for each member, emphasising the also-rans, with ({{Further}} or ({{See also}} tags for the big names.

Would either of these be okay? Is it too much? Is this the wrong article to even try this? / edgarde 01:02, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Missing dates

[edit]

Missing are the lineup dates from Feb 1959 thru Sep 1959. Even if this was an inactive period, it should be noted. Best, --Discographer (talk) 20:14, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lineup changes when someone "walked out"

[edit]

The article currently treats Starr's walkout in 1968 as creating a separate lineup. I think that's going too far; McCartney got angry and walked out of a session in 1966 and didn't participate in She Said She Said as a result. Should we consider that a brief exit from the band? I know the two incidents weren't exactly the same, but where should the line be? Harrison walked out during the Let It Be sessions; was that a different lineup?

My 1st preference would be one entry for the last lineup, starting in 1962: Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, Starr, drop the walkouts, and ignore Lennon's unpublicized exit in Sep 69. 2nd preference would be the same thing but with an additional entry for the post-Lennon period, Sep 69 to Apr 70. The 2nd recognizes that once Lennon left, he didn't come back in a few hours or days; he never came back, and the other three did some recording after he left. — John Cardinal (talk) 23:21, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you, John. We should drop the walk-outs of John, Paul, George and Ringo. Best, --Discographer (talk) 00:51, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's going way too far. Bands have these kinds of incidents all the time and no one considers it a new lineup for a day. Truth be told, the Beatles had no turnover from 1962 onward. Even Lennon was still part of the band through the release of Let It Be as he selected Spector and probably approved his work or at least the release schedule for the album. Missing one session for "I Me Mine" is not enough to remove him from the lineup.Cbben (talk) 15:27, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, and I'm surprised that the page still lists a separate line up for post-1969 eight years later. Lennon walking out was never publicised, and history generally records Paul's departure as being "the end". I'm more concerned about the provenance of the source used - Mark Lewisohn I could accept, but a web article by "Joe"? --kingboyk (talk) 03:13, 22 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

[edit]

The Beatles' line-upsThe Beatles line-ups — The useage of 'The Beatles' is not possessive. It would be 'Plastic Ono Band line-ups' not 'Plastic Ono Band's line-ups'. Relisted for further input. Jafeluv (talk) 08:07, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

McLerristarr / Mclay1 02:14, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Looks fine to me - I can't think of anything better.--Kotniski (talk) 07:26, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Related bands is too ambiguous. This could include, for example, Thenewno2, Dhani Harrison's band. Perhaps it would be best to split up the post-Beatles line-ups to new articles. The remaining Beatles and pre-Beatles line-ups would fit into The Beatles line-ups, as the pre-Beatles bands were The Beatles, just with different names and different line-ups. McLerristarr / Mclay1 13:21, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Line-ups of The Beatles and associated bands? Line-ups of The Beatles and post-Beatles bands? Or split the post-Beatles stuff as you suggest. Hmm, according to the list both Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder were part of Paul McCartney's solo band. Either that or this is actually a list of people whom Beatles members have worked with or collaborated with in any capacity. A tighter focus to the article wouldn't go amis. PC78 (talk) 15:54, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Line-ups of bands featuring members of The Beatles? Powers T 01:23, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I like that. Probably best so far.--Kotniski (talk) 08:44, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Any objection to the last suggestion, then? About time we made a decision on this.--Kotniski (talk) 09:00, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In that case, I'm moving it. --Kotniski (talk) 09:49, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Andy White

[edit]

What about Andy White? He played drums on Love Me Do. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.193.58.201 (talk) 23:10, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Andy White was just a session musician, not a member. If we added every session musician that ever played on a Beatles record, the list would not only be huge but probably fancruft. McLerristarr | Mclay1 10:13, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This is fancruft already. It's absolutely ridiculous. The Beatles were officially a 4 piece unit of JPGR from the moment Ringo joined to the moment that they officially broke up. This level of detail and "inventing" lineups is fancruft personified. Yes, George walked out, but the official lineup never changed. Yes, Jimmy Nicol drummed in some concerts but he was not a Beatle, and so on... See my comments at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_The_Beatles#List_of_members_of_bands_featuring_members_of_the_Beatles. --kingboyk (talk) 05:29, 13 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pete Best

[edit]

Any logical reason why this article doesn't include Pete Best's bands - before and after the Beatles? Come to that, any logical reason why it doesn't include Ringo's earlier bands? Ghmyrtle (talk) 20:25, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see any reason why it shouldn't contain those bands. McLerristarr | Mclay1 10:11, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I've done that. Does anyone have any information about The Darktown Skiffle Group - Ringo's group in 1958-59? Ghmyrtle (talk) 08:53, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Delaney & Bonnie And Friends

[edit]

George was a member of this group in 1969, not just for the UK tour but also for Scandanavia. Check out the 1969 UK and Scandanavia tours detailed at www.ectours.de/. I think this group therefore needs inclusion. George is not only on the Delaney & Bonnie and Friends album, but is also on the new box set of the UK tour. This all certainly exceeds his participation in Plastic Ono Band. Just to clarify, due to the name difference I don't think it necessary or appropriate to chronicle every Delaney & Bonnie lineup, just the ones with the "and Friends" included in the moniker. These lineups can easily be found at www.ectours.de/. Cbben (talk) 15:34, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Harrison Live

[edit]

There are three lineups to consider: Bangladesh, 1974 tour, 1991 tour. At the least, the 1991 lineup should be given serious consideration as it generated a live album. Going further, it seems only right to include the 1974 lineup since every touring lineup for McCartney is included. I think the Bangladesh lineup, like Lennon's one-off concert lineup generating his live album, could go either way as there was no tour. Cbben (talk) 15:41, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

1956?

[edit]

I see the history of The Quarrymen according to this article starts in March 1957. I see not much references for that, besides "The Beatles Bible". What do you think of the biographies here – [1]? Are they trustworthy?--Paracel63 (talk) 13:32, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Title

[edit]

The page title sounds mad. Surely it should read List of bands featuring members of The Beatles. How can 'a member of a band' feature 'a member of another band'? Obscurasky (talk) 11:33, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, because it's not a list of bands, its a list of people who were in such bands. Read it as "List of (members of (bands featuring (members of The Beatles)))". Powers T 21:04, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Post-Beatles section

[edit]

I'm thinking of revamping the Post-Beatles section of the page, but one of the problems is what to include. I think the post-Beatles "bands" should be defined as either an actual band (eg Wings, Traveling Wilburys), or a band used in a live performance (eg Paul's touring bands, ect.). One thing I would not include is a lineup that worked on a solo album, that wasn't billed as a band (for example, we currently have the lineup the played on Milk and Honey under John). Anyone have any suggestions or input? Seltaeb Eht (talk) 17:19, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've added a fair amount to this article recently. Most of what I added was post-Beatles line-ups, however there's a lot left to add. I'll try to get back to adding the rest soon. I'm interested in either converting, adding, or making a separate article containing a rock family tree. However, I'm not comfortable with having a good way to diagramattically/code-wise do this. Any thoughts? Thanks. --luckymustard 14:12, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Chas Newby

[edit]

Chas Newby was not a member of the Beatles. He played with them during holiday from school but he himself has stated he was not a member and neither the Beatles nor he had any intention of that happening. He just filled in on bass with his friends while temporarily home from school. He didn't quit the Beatles because he was never a member of the Beatles. He should be listed under touring musician if anything. 24.47.241.227 (talk) 00:03, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
