[edit]Although regarded as a classic horror film, it is actually revealed at the end to have been a spoof.
Almost certainly the inspiration for Thing, the hand from The Adams Family. Matthew BG 117.102.151.231 (talk) 14:00, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
More information needed
[edit]This article largely consists of plot details and there is no information on the film's production, release, and reception which should be added to the article so that it is not just one big plot description.--Paleface Jack (talk) 16:07, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

Luis Buñuel connection?
[edit]In his autobiography "My Last Breath", Luis Buñuel states that he worked on the script of this film, and wrote a scene in which the hand crawls around a library, but the producer didn't like it and wouldn't use it so Buñuel didn't get paid. However, when he saw the finished film, he was surprised to see his scene included exactly as he'd written it, though he never received either any credit or any money. He thought about suing Warner Bros. but decided not to bother because they had a heck of a lot more legal muscle than he did.
Since Buñuel himself says this in print I suppose it's reliably sourced. And on a purely subjective note, that scene certainly does feature Surrealist touches, such as the hand's presence causing guitar strings to break for no logical reason, that aren't found anywhere else in the movie. Worth a mention, perhaps? 81.136.30.59 (talk) 15:13, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
