This is my first 'talk' about a subject, please excuse me if I'm not doing this right.
I recently found three letters sent ot my late father concerning the historical source of the his song that I feel may offer some clarity from a reputable source. My father wrote to Donal O'Sullivan (Director of Studies in Irish Folk Music at University College, Dublin) around 1962 asking for clarification on the song's history. He received a very detailed response where O'Sullivan cites page/verse numerous books/references that detail the song's early history. I'll have a scan of this letter available in a few weeks.
I didn't want to just add this letter to the page before annoucning it here as it may contain conflciting information than is in this article. Should I just make a copy available for contributors to digest first and the. you guys amend the article if it needs it. Ponyegg (talk) 16:39, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
