Feedback and Suggestions
[edit]Hi Editors of the Babylonian Marriage Market Wikipedia Page, I've added some edits about the historical background, artistry and meaning of the painting as reported in the literature. I was wondering if you had any suggestions for improvements or anything to add? Michaelaroney (talk) 23:29, 18 May 2021 (UTC)
- Well, I can certianly see you've spent a lot of time developing this article, nice one! I've done some 'housekeeping', combining the duplicate citations (I've assumed the "Ibid"s related entirely to the Speilman article).
- One thing that leaps out as unsuitable for the purposes of this Wikpedia article is the lengthy synopsis of the artist, Edwin Long. This would be fine for a college essay but, because Wikipedia already has an article about Long (wikilinked here) there's no need to repeat it. I'd recommend it is removed, or reduced to a few lines. Of course, if you have addtional information about Long, it would be great to use that to develop the Long article.
- I've also got a lingering suspicion there may be an element of original synthesis in the article too, though I haven't had time to look at everything more closely. Sionk (talk) 03:26, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- I did some basic copy editing, and also removed some of the "see detail to the right" or "below" suggestions, as readers on mobil devices see content in linear scroll format, not the same as a computer screen format. Netherzone (talk) 19:01, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- thanks so much for the help and advice on what to further edit and refine. Your edits have shown me the direction this article needs to travel to increase its quality. I'll go through the information I found on Long and see if there's anything I can add to the Edwin Long wikipedia page, I think you're right that condensing it for this article will be more relevant for readers. I spent quite a bit of time making sure I avoided original synthesis but I'll go through again and double check there's absolutely no trace of it, thanks for the heads up. Thanks again !! Copyedit Discussion
[edit]@Geysirhead, [your edit here] seemed unhelpful. Could you advise exactly what purpose it served? I reverted it, and you reverted my revert, with the edit summary "No, this was a needed correction in a sentence structure.". The sentence in question before, and after, respectively:
- It is argued that Long chose this method of composition as it more closely aligns the women (brides) to decimal currency, Hart arguing that the linear arrangement more closely resembles a numeric scale which converts the brides into numerals.
- It is argued that Long chose this method of composition because it better aligns the women (brides) with the decimal currency, with Hart arguing that the linear arrangement is more like a numerical scale that converts the brides to numerals.
Your edit is not a correction, as there is no error in the original sentence. PrimalBlueWolf (talk) 12:25, 26 December 2021 (UTC)
