Query on the Gods

Shouldn't they be named by the Greek way?

~A respectful Anon —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.118.37.118 (talk) 02:34, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Issues?

George Washington becoming a god? I am curious as to whether there is or ever was any controversy associated with this. Amity150 16:56, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Yes I feel this would be interesting to know as well. One would think some might consider it blasphemy especially in 1800's era United States. Though it was meant in the more metaphorical Roman tradition, which was popular for European tradition states & governments to emulate at that time and much thereafter. Among all those Latin deities should he be called Divus Caunotaucarius? Nagelfar (talk) 09:41, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Nipples; both male and female - or lack of same, to be more accurate...

Is there any history to why both men and women in that artwork lack nipples entirely? -- Cimon Avaro; on a pogostick. (talk) 22:47, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

See Frances Trollope, Domestic Manners of the Americans. This was not long after pianos had panties on their legs for decency's sake. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 23:13, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Vulcan and Flora have nipples. Venus only has a right breast. 79.178.138.185 (talk) 12:42, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

As you can read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constantino_Brumidi Κωνσταντίνος Μπρουμίδης was Greek. His father was Greek. Please someone change this fact or at least add that he hast greek ancestors. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Marasia (talkcontribs) 13:27, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

References in Modern Culture

I would think that Dan Brown's latest novel "The Lost Symbol" should be listed, given the prominent feature; agreed? RainmanCT (talk) 15:26, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

The Thirteen Maidens

The articles states the maidens that have turned their back to Washington are said to represent the states that were original colonies that seceded from the Union. However, I only count three maidens turning their back from Washington whereas four of original colonies states seceded (Georgia, both Carolinas and Virginia). Maybe the Virginia maiden just couldn't turn her back to a native son...

Yes, some sources are needed in that section. feydey (talk) 12:42, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

Criticism?

Is there no published criticism of this bizarre work anywhere? It's pretty clear that Washington himself, at least, would have been horrified by it. Someone must have said so, somewhere! 192.91.173.42 (talk) 22:50, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

I second this question! In an age of highly charged battles over such things as "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance and the display of the Ten Commandments in public buildings, it seems odd that none of the many Christian politicians wandering through the Capitol have taken objection to a blatantly idolatrous and blasphemous depiction of George Washington as a god suspended above their God-fearing heads. Beorhtwulf (talk) 23:31, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
I third the question - truly bizarre Tiki2099 (talk) 13:36, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
It's all about freemasonry, so George would have been ok with it 194.229.248.82 (talk) 13:11, 2 September 2011 (UTC)Ikke

Latin and Religious Right - Begs some viewpoints?

I wonder if the Romans would recognize George Washington as a Roman God? I don't exactly recall hearing him mentioned at all during Latin class.... I'm pretty sure my Latin teachers, as well as myself, learned in Roman theology, would discount this painting as absolute rubbish.

Further, how do the ultra nationalistic and super patriotic Christian Right... reconcile... their monotheistic religion... and their staunch belief in separation of church and state... with all those Roman gods and goddesses and George Washington being one of them up on their national dome? I think the article should cover both. 71.226.11.248 (talk) 13:45, 31 May 2014 (UTC)
