In order to review an article, you need to either not be an editor who had substantially contributed to it, or didn't nominate it. XTools says I edited 0.1% of the article, which is not subsantial. So technically I think I should be able to review this GAN. Putting on hold for a month. — SirDot (talk) 19:47, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
- Appreciate you taking this on. I'll get working on the changes today. -- Zoo (talk) 20:30, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
Lede → Concept and creation
[edit]- paragraph 1
- "
based on the Marvel Comics supervillain of the same name
" → Delink "supervillain" from Thanos
- Done
- Maybe reword the Infinity Stones description similar to its article?
- Are you talking about this part?
His primary goal is to obtain the six Infinity Stones, cosmic gems with the power to stabilize the universe's overpopulation and prevent what he views as its inevitable demise.
If so I think it's fine how it is.- Alright. — SirDot (talk) 21:09, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
- Are you talking about this part?
- "
With the help of his adopted children
" → Don't think the "Children of Thanos" are explicitly described as his adopted children but this is fine - "
and after a significant conflict against various entities including the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and their allies,
" → and after the Infinity War primarily against the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy,
- Done
- "
Thanos is successful in assembling the Stones within his Infinity Gauntlet and erasing half of all life in the universe.
" → Thanos is successful in committing the Blip, which disintegrates half of all life in the universe. (Stones within Gauntlet part can stay)
- Done
- "
He then destroys the Stones to prevent his victory from being undone and retires, only to be ambushed by the Avengers and killed by Thor.
" → He then atomizes the Stones and retires, but is eventually killed by Thor.
- Done
- Move the Endgame stuff to its own paragraph SirDot (talk) 20:02, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
- Done
- paragraph 1b/2
- "
In 2023, the Avengers utilize time travel to obtain past versions of the Stones and undo Thanos' actions.
" Reword a bit - Endgame Battle of Earth stuff (mention Stark sacrificed his life) SirDot (talk) 20:02, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
- Do you have a suggestion of how it should be reworded? I feel like it's fine how it is.
- Stark info Added -- Zoo (talk) 23:47, 18 July 2022 (UTC)
- infobox
- paragraph 2 / 3 (bold = changes)
- "
Thanos is a central figure in the MCU's "Infinity Saga", having appeared in five films, most notably in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Several versions of Thanos from within the MCU multiverse also appear in Endgame, the Disney+ animated series What If...? (2021–present), and the Phase Four film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022).
" — SirDot (talk) 20:16, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

- paragraph 3 / 4
- "
The character has been well-received by critics and fans alike. Thanos is often credited as one of the MCU's best villains, as well as one of the greatest film villains of all-time.
" — SirDot (talk) 20:16, 12 July 2022 (UTC)- @ZooBlazer: revert the edit that added "universal acclaim". That is not WP:NPOV. — SirDot (talk) 19:07, 13 August 2022 (UTC)
- Done
Creation and development
[edit]- Sorry for the wait (will continue this section tomorrow); maybe rename the section to Concept and creation just to keep consistent with other MCU character articles and Peter Parker.
- Done
- paragraph 1
- Sentences . Although isn't it a 1973 issue rather an edition? If you have any specifications like the issue number add it (along with the cover date). — SirDot (talk) 21:37, 18 July 2022 (UTC)
- Done
- rest
- Nothing bad here. All well-written. I have also added a refidea if you want to implement it. — SirDot (talk) 08:56, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- Added -- Zoo (talk) 17:21, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
Characterization (new)
[edit]- For Consistency, I think the Death/Gamora paragraph can be moved to "Characterization" (either sub-section or full section). 17:19, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
- Done
- There is alot of quotes in this new section. I suggest heavily copyediting/paraphrasing to avoid some copyright violations. — SirDot (talk) 19:40, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

- Remove the contraction in "Wouldn't".

Visual Effects
[edit]- No issues mostly.
- Last section of Concept and creation
- Are you saying to switch the section with portrayal so that it's the last section of concept and creation? -- Zoo (talk) 00:30, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
- Must've forgot to complete the sentence. Re: The quote in portrayal: "this guy" should be removed as "[Kurtz]" gives context. — SirDot (talk) 00:58, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

Fictional character biography
[edit]- Looking at a glance (good job on the overall structure), further information pointing to Hawkeye is misleading. Remove TLAT too. — SirDot (talk)
- Done
- After someone was re-adding Thor 4 to the Death and Legacy section, shouldn't we keep it since it's another source for the info? Plus the ice cream store fits under the legacy, so I'm not sure if it's truly misleading to include in the see also section. -- Zoo (talk) 17:44, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
- Oh god, I legitimately forgot this was up, so sorry. I think Infinity Conez should be in Death and legacy with a ref and no {{further}} for Love and Thunder, Hawkeye, and Ms. Marvel (if the first episode articles don't have info on their Thanos references). Ref is arguably more cleaner, though that's just me. — SirDot (talk) 03:15, 17 September 2022 (UTC)

- Done
- First sentence of Death and legacy: remove the team members with "Twenty-three days later, Thanos, now living on the Garden, is ambushed by the remaining Avengers."
Alternate versions
[edit]- King Thanos is currently unsourced.
Appearances
[edit]- Good job on the conversion to prose.
- Remove the DUPLINKs for Avengers 1, GotG Vol. 1, Infinity War, and Endgame since they are already linked in Concept and creation. — SirDot (talk) 14:07, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

- Last comment today (trying to review a bit everyday) Destruction of Earth: The episodes themselves serve as a WP:PLOTSOURCE, so recommend removing the episode sources themselves (keep the third-party refs though). — SirDot (talk) 17:19, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

Status query
[edit]Hello @ZooBlazer and SirDot:, where does this nomination currently stand? Is there further review needed, and have concerns been addressed? CMD (talk) 01:31, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah, I don't mean to sound nitpicky, but reviewers are generally expected to finish reviewing an article within a week, per WP:GAN/I#R2. It's been well over seven days (more than three months, to be exact) since this review was initiated, so I would suggest wrapping this up as soon as possible, or else this article is looking at a fail. I know @Adamstom.97 previously advised waiting for Talk:Peter Parker (Marvel Cinematic Universe)/GA1 to conclude before wrapping this review, so you might want to consider allowing this article to temporarily fail and then renominate it at a later time. And speaking of the Peter Parker GAN, it's been two months since that review was initiated, which is also well beyond the typical GA timeframe. Sorry if this sounds a little obnoxious. InfiniteNexus (talk) 03:48, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
- CMD, you can take over this GAN. I basically can't do any major wiki stuff until at least mid November. And @InfiniteNexus:, that sounded kinda nitpicky, but whatever. I'm fine with temporarily failing Peter Parker and CMD reviewing Thanos. — SirDot (talk) 14:31, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
- Can't commit myself, but I've put it to second opinion and I'll bring it up at WT:GAN. CMD (talk) 14:36, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
- SirDot, what I originally meant was that you might want to temporarily fail Thanos, finish the Peter Parker GAN, and then have Zoo renominate Thanos. But if you want to do it the other way round, that's fine too. InfiniteNexus (talk) 15:13, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
- Due to the time it has taken, closing this is unfortunately probably the best decision. -- Zoo (talk) 16:45, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
- At this point, I would recommend we fail both this and the Peter Parker GAN so they are no longer just sitting open. You can still carry on addressing the points that have been made during the GA reviews and re-nominate once the articles are ready. - adamstom97 (talk) 22:08, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
- Given this discussion, I am closing this GAN. Best of luck with further work on the article, CMD (talk) 02:07, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
- I definitely hope to re-nominate this after we get the Peter Parker article dealt with so I can maybe adjust this article to make it more in line with what is being looked for for MCU character GAs. -- Zoo (talk) 06:33, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
