old comment from 2005

[edit]

I have been born and brought up in Thane and personally would not like to stay anywhere else in the world. We get the best of both the worlds here. Culturally we are a part of mumbai though administratively we are not some of the restirctions in mumbai do not apply to us eg: 1.30am deadline. I would really like the article. Just one thing to improve the article. Would a list of the important landmarks in Thane be useful especially since we now have a lot of new malls and multiplexes. Please let me know if you need any help in this. Regards, Paunkaj

Yes, please add the relevant information. Rohitbd 16:14, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Promotional Content! Really??

[edit]

User: O.Koslowski can you please tell me how the content in the entertainment section looks promotional? Apoorvaphale (talk) 12:01, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Added a section on Entertainment

[edit]

I have added a section on Entertainment options in Thane. I have listed the multiplexes and movie theaters and a few other entertainment avenues available in Thane. I would want to make it better with information on Malls.

Need for Real Estate Stats?

[edit]

I don't think we need to include real estate stats for Thane dhoom 15:43, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removed them. Mumbai doesn't have them, and I think a link to a website which contains such information should be added if anyone wants it at all. -- AshishKulkarni 13:09, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thane in Central Maharashtra???

[edit]

since when is thane in central maharashtra? the map is totally wrong thane city is just west/southwest of the thane creek, extending till the gandhi national park

Yes the map is wrong and should be fixed

The map certainly needs fixing but, unfortunately, the infobox is not easy to work with. Bolivian Unicyclist 21:26, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I added a disputed tag. Fixing the infobox appears to be matter of putting the latitude and longitude. Bombay's longitude and latitude would be close enough for all practical purposes -- Thane borders the north eastern part of Bombay/Mumbai, and 30 km north east of the center of Bombay. However, if we could find the exact latitude and longitude, that would be ideal. Arun 08:13, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed the location by using the information from MapsOfIndia. Also removed the disputed tag. -- Ashish

You will need to upload them on Commons a Wiki Project and then accordingly hyperlink it in the article. Apoorvaphale (talk) 05:46, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Pride Park ??

[edit]

I am unable to understand the special position (that which causes its name to appear in bold on the article) of Pride Park in Thane (if there is any ?? )

Lists

[edit]

Hi guys, I am skeptical of including list of schools and colleges, malls, hospitals, places of worships... for that matter any kind of lists. Wiki is encyclopedia so things should be presented in details if they are worth knowing or is associated with any kind of important events in past or present. Information should not be bulleted.

Wikipedia is not a directory, and hey, Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information either.

If you all agree I would like to delete all lists from this page. spacejuncky 15:41, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The voilet color location mark in the map of google earth actualy points to Mumlund Railway Station. And it's marked as Thane.

Thane Station Separate Page

[edit]

Should we separate Thane City Page from Thane Station? Because at the bottom of the page, there is a Central Line Menu Box that does not necessarily represent "Thane City" but Thane Station. --Irutavias 00:08, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposed (Wagle estate)

The result was: Merge. --B. Wolterding 15:14, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I propose to merge the content of Wagle estate into here, since the notability of that article has been questioned. Actually the Wagle estate article is quite short and could easily fit here.

Please add your comments below. Proposed as part of the Notability wikiproject. --B. Wolterding 20:14, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that it ought to be merged. There are plenty of examples of notable industrial regions of cities, but I don't think there is enough notability in this case. Cott12 23:29, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

i think it can be included in the thane page only! raj

Brief History and History

[edit]

These sections are copied totally from this site and this site and a few more. Unless, third party reliable sources are cited for the history section, I am going to delete all the history section. Docku (talk) 18:34, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

College

[edit]

At [1] a college is described as being affiliated to a university. Does this mean, that it is part of the university or does it cooperate with the university? Sarcelles (talk) 08:19, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The skyline image isn't of Thane

[edit]

The image which is described as "Thane Skyline" isn't actually of Thane but is of some part of Mumbai. What should I do keep the image, or remove it? --Rahul Bobhate (talk) 12:54, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

the image in question is actually Hiranandani Meadows, which is part of Thane. We should keep this image or if you have some nice image than this add on this talk page we see if its good enough to add as skyline image. KuwarOnline Talk 19:02, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Primary topic?

[edit]

As thane is an English common noun, it is unclear whether this city should be considered the "primary meaning" of the term. The page was moved last April because of this, but this was immediately reverted with the summary of "plausible primary topic based on first set of incoming wikilinks". Needless to say (I would hope), this was an absolutely nonsensical rationale, as the "incoming wikilinks" will be fixed to conform with the status quo. --dab (𒁳) 14:57, 30 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thane city is not equal to Thane subdistrict (taluka)

[edit]

The statement that "Thane city coincides completely with Thane taluka" is wrong. Thane taluka includes three municipal corporations (Thane, Navi Mumbai, Mira-Bhayandar), and total population of taluka is 3.8m - while Thane MC is only 1.8m See 2011 census data: http://www.census2011.co.in/data/subdistrict/4165-thane-thane-maharashtra.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by Barouh (talkcontribs) 13:47, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Editing the 'Lakes in Thane' section

[edit]

Does the article really need the lakes section, along with the areas and locations of all the lakes? I suggest that we abridge the list to display only the noteworthy lakes, of particular interest to tourists and visitors. CBhat109 (talk) 06:44, 14 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well, Lakes are the Reputation of Thane. Having them all is a must I guess. Though, we can put the names of Famous Lakes on top and the Least Famous on the last lakes mentioned in the list. This is just a suggestion but this would help I guess SpiritVonAdam (talk) 05:34, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Malls & Other Famous places

[edit]

We have alot of Malls, and other touristic places in Thane currently! We have Viviana Mall, Korum Mall, R-Mall, Hyper City Mall, Eternity Mall among others! Places such as Hiranandani-The Walk, Tikujini Wadi, Suraj Water Park among other Famous places are the most recommended destinations among alot of us! So why not add these here in Wikipedia!? I'm sure that these places are worth a visit for tourists touring our city! SpiritVonAdam (talk) 06:01, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Schools In Thane

[edit]

I really don't get about rule that schools with wikipage should only be mentioned. It's nonsensical. As a third person if someone's looking for particular information, he/she should get it. Like other day I added Lok Puram Public School's name, as it's one of old schools in thane, but someone removed that entry because that school didn't had wikipage. I don't see any logic in this rule. 117.228.168.122 (talk) 06:06, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
