Pronunciation
This is the English version of this Wikipedia article. Would it be too much to ask to have a pronunciation guide that can actually be read and pronounced by people who speak English (e.g., THEY-leez, or TAH-less, or however it is actually pronounced)? These "IPA" codes serve only to make whoever typed them feel clever. They certainly do not actually help anyone pronounce "Thales" correctly. 67.62.201.69 (talk) 20:53, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
- Pronunciations are usually given in the Wikipedia using the IPA (click on the IPA pronunciation of Thales in the article to see an explanation why, and how does it work). I don't think your comment on people using IPA reflects the truth. Apart from that, I have spoken to several British Thales workers and they tend to pronounce their company name TAH-leez. As I don't have good sources for that, I will not amend the article.--Gorpik (talk) 11:14, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- Vowels the same as "sashes" or "matches". Constructions such as "tah-leez" will get you nowhere, since there isn't a single spelling-to-sound mapping. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.13.197.229 (talk) 06:57, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
If looking for citations: pronunciation by a French speaker can be found in first few seconds of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkEWZC7o1TM - the main difference from the pronunciation used by English speakers (which can be found elsewhere in the company's Youtube channel) is that the stress is moved towards the end of the word. - Its not very clear but the pronunciation on the video appears to be the same as used by English speakers without the accent! MilborneOne (talk) 08:17, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
