Meaning equivalent

[edit]

I'm not satisfied with this heading. I'd prefer dividing it in twain |Literal|Meaning|Compare. "Literal" for the (usually anthropic) Thai; "Meaning" for its use as a unit; "Compare" linked to Cf. for analogous English-language units. In the case of Yot compared to English league unit, the curious would have to go to the league unit article to find comparison to Chinese Li unit, but that unit varies quite a lot. As for the reference to So where he gives the approximate length as 12 instead of 1.2 km, I think [ sic ] addressees that adequately. I used "[ [[sic]] ]" to inclose it in [brackets] as I don't know any other way to do it. Write now I have only 3 hrs. Internet time left before I must go to town to buy more, so I'll check back tomorrow to see what other editor(s) say(s). --06:55, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

I've no objections against another separate column. I'd like to note though that piping links to hide the disambiguating terms in brackets is appropriate in this situation, as they are rather unwieldy. (It's in disambiguation pages that piping should be avoided.) As for the [sic] issue, there's Template:sic. --Paul_012 (talk) 20:39, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I left Cf. Rope (unit) as is and piped the others. Now to town for more I.time! --Pawyilee (talk) 04:08, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Catty is about half a chang, therefore far from equivalent. Perhaps in the Weights area, we can defer to "similar unit" or somesuch.2405:9800:B911:5B1F:FC41:189E:4912:7447 (talk) 04:39, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
