Privatization
[edit](This info will be added to article if the bill becomes law) The Texas State Railroad is on track for privatization after passage of Senate Bill 1659 which allows the creation of a railroad partnership between the cities of Palestine and Rusk.
The bill, will allow the newly-created Texas State Railroad Operating Agency to lease out operations of the railroad to a private entity but still remain under the supervision of the partnership. The private entity is American Heritage Railways.
The operating agency will consist of seven members, three from each city and an appointed individual.
The railroad was slated to become a museum on Sept. 1 unless funding came available.
