I would like to declare that this page is of high importance to the WikiProject Tetrigidae. Furthermore , WikiProject Arthropods is of low importance to WikiProject Tetrigidae. Justinleif 16:02, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
In any case, I upped the article to B-class after doing a major rewrite today. Given the limited amount known about the family, I think the article may be nearing completion. I'd welcome any comments on what else to include, however. Cheers, Justinleif 01:49, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Pygmy grasshoppers
[edit]Why does the article refer to the name pygmy grasshopper as being erroneous? I have published a paper on the ecology of a member of the family (Paratettix aztecus), and it is the only name I have ever heard the family referred to by. I have never heard any other taxa referred to by this name. Borror Tripplehorn and Johnson also use pygmy grasshopper as their primary common name for the family, although they also mention the term grouse locust (although not pygmy locust). A Google search for pygmy grasshopper returns more hits than either grouse locust or pygmy locust, and the hits all seem to refer to Tetrigidae. This is in stark contrast to pygmy locust, where most hits refer to lobsters or mole crickets. Justinleif 06:10, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- Noted and updated - I suggest English terms should have references where possible, and have removed 'pygmy locust': it seems to me that 'grouse locust' is rather obsolete and only found in older texts - but may be corrected! Roy Bateman (talk) 01:03, 4 August 2017 (UTC)
Category
[edit]While Caelifera may be a somewhat obscure category, I don't see what's wrong with Orthoptera. Grasshopper is a more vague term. Justinleif 16:03, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
