On 3 June 2021, it was proposed that this article be moved from Pavement ant to Tetramorium immigrans. The result of the discussion was moved. |
Out of date?
[edit]Apparently as of 2017 the T. caespitum complex now distinguishes T. immigrans as the only species in the complex to have been introduced to north america. See e.g. https://www.antwiki.org/wiki/Tetramorium_caespitum https://www.antwiki.org/wiki/Tetramorium_immigrans https://www.antwiki.org/wiki/images/5/56/Wagner%2C_H.C.%2C_Arthofer%2C_W._et_al._2017._Light_at_the_end_of_the_tunnel_-_Integrative_taxonomy_delimits_cryptic_species_in_the_Tetramorium_caespitum_complex.pdf
...it seems as if this article needs to be updated to reflect that detail. E.g. a paragraph about taxonomy, and a sentence explaining that T. caespitum isn't in N.A., but the closely related species is?
I'm not an ant expert or I'd do it myself. Any takers? Chconnor (talk) 06:57, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

Pavement ant → Tetramorium immigrans – Correcting an incorrect page move to a common name that applies to several species in the genus. This name is also prominently applied to T. caespitum. Lhikan634 (talk) 13:43, 2 June 2021 (UTC)

- @Lhikan634, 2pou, and Edibobb: queried move request Anthony Appleyard (talk) 12:18, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Lhikan634: I just want to make sure it's clear what you are asking before taking action. After looking at these, there was no incorrect page move to a common name that was performed. Special:PermanentLink/993886188 suggests that [[User:]] tried to start a generalized article, but decided against it, made updates to the pre-existing pavement ant page (Special:Diff/993914072), and then redirected there. If moved, would the leftover Pavement ant redirect become a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT to either of these pages, or become a WP:2DAB pointing to both of them? Regards, 2pou (talk) 19:46, 2 June 2021 (UTC)
- @2pou: That's probably the edit I was seeing - I probably misunderstood that edit as a page move. So the same issue of a redirect existing at the desired location but different cause of the redirect. This would have the content moved to T. immigrans. The leftover pavement ant page would probably be best as a primary redirect to Tetramorium since recent revision by Wagner et al. (2017) split the former pavement ant (T. caespitum) into a complex containing 10 species (rather than just the 2). For other species in the genus outside of the complex, T. tsushimae is known as the Japanese pavement ant and T. bicarinatum is known as either a pavement ant (or less frequently bicolored pavement ant), so that should support redirecting to the genus page.
