Inca agriculture
[edit]69.229.10.39 added some material[1] on May 16, 2006 regarding Inca agriculture. Several problems:
- The material was lifted, nearly intact, from here, without attribution
- Most of the plant and species names were changed from their correct names to bizarre, and completely incorrect names. E.g. ahipa was changed to achier and Pachyrhizus ahipa - Fabales to Pachyrhizus hip - Fables. It looks like the (mostly Spanish) common names and latin scientific names were put through an automatic spelling correction, with very strange results.
- This material doesn't really belong in an article on terraces. On the other hand, having an article on Incan crops and agriculture is a great idea

The following doesn't really add to this topic.... The Hanging Gardens of Babylon could have been built on an artificial mountain with stepped terraces like those on a ziggurat. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.159.32.66 (talk • contribs • WHOIS) .
- You think so? I found it was quite informative, personally. The idea was that the Hanging Gardens were more related to the concept of natural terrace agriculture than is immediately apparent. Waitak 00:44, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
"The human landscapes of rice cultivation in terraces that follow the natural contours of the escarpments like contour plowing is a classic feature of the island of Bali and the Banaue Rice Terraces in Benguet, Philippines. "
Corection. The Banaue Rice Tarraces is not in the Benguet province. Although there are paddies in the province the "Banaue" Rife terraces are located in the IFUGAO province. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.190.84.33 (talk) 23:31, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Indonesian Rice Terraces
[edit]Terracing is found in many parts of the world. Could we please have a picture of an Indonesian rice terrace? They're beautiful, and rice terracing seems to be more prolific there than any other part of the world. Just one picture will do. Thanks.

[edit]this dose not tell you anything about what year terraced farming was invented this is stupid —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.10.96.222 (talk) 00:08, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

U.S. terracing; soil conservation practice
[edit]"Terracing" in the U.S. (and some of Europe) is a soil conservation practice. All of the examples on this page seem to be a practice of leveling, while the main practice of terracing in the U.S. ids done to reduce erosion. U.S. terraces reduce the amount and velocity of rain run off by following the land contours at a very low gradient.
There was leveling in the U.S. but it was done with large equipment for the reason of forming large fields for flood irrigation.
So, where is the U.S. terracing practice covered? I'm not sure this would be the page to do so.
