Misleading Ranking Statement

The first paragraph states "Tennessee Tech is ranked among the Top 8 Public Schools in the South in U.S. News & World Report's 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, & 2012 editions of 'America's Best Colleges.'" This is a misleading statement. U.S. News & World Report has multiple categories of universities. Tennessee Tech was a Top 8 South Region University; however the statement in the article appears to compare Tennessee Tech to all universities in the South, which is not correct.

A correct statement would be to say "Tennessee Tech is ranked among the Top 8 Public Schools in the South among universities that focus on undergraduate education but award fewer than half their degrees in Liberal Arts disciplines in U.S. News & World Report's 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, & 2012 editions of 'America's Best Colleges'" per the description here: http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/regional-colleges. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.191.2.16 (talk) 13:20, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

Quick Facts

The quick facts statements need to be rewritten as they are taken verbatim from the university's website. -Ichabod 03:23, 21 July 2005 (UTC)

Residential Life

The comments that keep reappearing under the dormitories section should be reserved for a forum or discussion website. This is not encylopaedic information.

It is important to note that students are forced to live on campus at Tennessee Technological University.

Their official policy states,"The University policy requires students to live in residence halls until all available space has been assigned, beginning with freshman, and proceeding through the classifications accordingly, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Based on current available space, the University residency requirement places emphasis on students who have not completed four semesters of college coursework post high school graduation.

The basis for waivers and exceptions for living in the residence halls are: (1) students who have completed four semesters of college course work post high school graduation; (2) students commuting from parent and/or guardian residency which is within a fifty-mile radius; (3) students living with immediate relatives who are permanent residents specifically identified as grandparents, brothers or sisters who are not enrolled at the University within a fifty-mile radius; (4) students participating in academic internship programs; (5) students with physical and/or emotional disabilities verified by a licensed physician; (6) married; (7) emergency release granted by the Office of Residential Life. Please note: The signing of a housing agreement obligates the student to fulfill the terms and conditions of the agreement for the duration of the agreement. The residence hall agreement can be signed for one semester or the entire academic year. A Fall semester only agreement can be renewed for the following Spring semester."

There has been some discourse among students about this requirement because of the low quality of the older dorm rooms. This low quality has created health risks for some students requiring them to be waived from their obligation. [1]
