The template file format described in this article relates to desktop applications.

For example, consider word processing or desktop publishing, or image processing software like photoshop, or spreadsheets or other applications with a "Save As ..." menu and a "New file ..." menu.

This article is not related to web development. This article is not related to Template Engine (does not have a "Save As ... " menu). Someone keeps putting web-development-specific links on every page that has the word "template" in the title! Please stop doing this.
